Gee I wonder if this technology will find its way to America. It couldn't be abused could it? Nah no way. Would BO and cronies prevent conservatives and tea party members from voting on Election Day by preventing their cars from starting?

I lived in Mexico for a couple of years. The best highways were private toll roads. They had armed patrols to ensure no harassment on the highway and had an excellent rest stop mid-way between Monterrey and Laredo.

If roads were privately owned, this could still be a feature. Ending high-speed chases is a good idea, also. Your real concerns are with those who control the system, a different question, entirely. (BTW, I walk to the polling booth on election day because I vote in the neighborhood where I live.)

Interesting post. Did you know that every car with with On Star has that capability now? It is not talked about much, but OnStar has GPS tracking, lock/unlock remote and engine shut off remote capability.
So far they have not used the engine shut off without court order and the location feature is also subject to court order.
Any navigation system that plots your location and generates instructions using GPS is theoretically capable of giving your position upon query.

OnStar is a two-way system, most GPS's aren't. However, that said, I stopped using my single function GPS and have been using an app on my iPhone. That would have the same capability to report your location without your knowledge. Doesn't interact with the vehicle, though, so couldn't shut off your engine.

I was not aware of On Star's capabilities, I do not have it installed on my Murano and use a wired Garmin when I need GPS. Given this administrations disinterest in following the law, I wonder how long it will be before BO goes around Congress to have the NSA start collecting data and building another database?
