I really liked the TS Eliot quote in the second one. Its fairly early in the article.
"Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm — but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves."
It resonates with me as a very root problem with so many things gone astray in our world today. Perhaps the ultimate opposite of the valley oath. "I SWEAR BY MY LIFE AND MY LOVE OF IT THAT I WILL NEVER LIVE FOR THE SAKE OF ANOTHER MAN, NOR ASK ANOTHER MAN TO LIVE FOR MINE" are those that live as Eliot describes with that quote.
