John, I find this post interesting. The negatives I worry about are the loss of freedom and the ascendancy of the moochers and looters. I think that human beings are better off than ever before in history, but I can't help but think of how wonderful things would be if we all lived by Rand's principles.
I judge reality by refusing to watch any news program!

      Hi, Mamaemma
Humans are better off because of science and the example set by the former USA. It is unfortunate that the very thing that creates mankind's prosperity is the very thing they abandon once they assume power.

Whose truth? I would suppose that even the Leninest-Liberal version of truth is based on a belief in their own inability to be wrong - a sort of divine right of a secular nature all fueled and comforted by their belief in a never ending change of definitions and meanings to suit the needs of the moment. Their needs. For sure it depends on the source of the truth and whose preaching be they philosopher, preacher, or politician. Strike the last one. Truth and Principles become an unbelievable stretch for anyone's faith and expectations where they are concerned.

There is no such thing as "Whose truth." There are versions of the truth, but there is only one truth and that is anything that pertains to reality. Anything else is other than the truth.

Whose reality? I'm not trying to dispute you but explore some parameters. The reality of Washington DC is far different for a resident with thirty or forty years of government time, elected or appointed or hired - than the perception by someone not living so close to Europe and so far away from the rest of the country. Their truth is not only much different it changes rapidly. Ours if i may claim that has a basis in moral values and means much the same today as it did some years ago or will mean in the future. Yet both believe they are the only standard bearers of truth. Difference is I know they are full of it. They don't

Truth - and Reality - are not subject to one's viewpoint. One may have a distorted (or just flat wrong) perception of the truth/reality, but that does not impact truth/reality itself. To discuss in terms of "our truth" and "their truth" implies that the truth is subjective and therefore only a matter of opinion. If I say red popsicles are better than blue popsicles, that is a matter of opinion. If I say the earth is round, (ok, spherical) and state that as reality, I should be expected to support that with observable evidence (photographs from space, for instance).

Probably the same way Greece left the wagon. I recall much of that since we were running fuel from the Corinth Canal refinery to other parts of the Med. The smart people - mostly educated professionals were bailing. Then the reality smacked them like a not so fresh fish in the face. A couple of time we had to anchor out waiting for the political stuff to calm down. Retire at 55? Right and whose paying? When the other Euro countries said no....that was it. Reality although it depends on which party and they have a ton of them. We don't have enough they have too many.

I went to sea as a deck hand on a freighter after I turned 62. Made enough to up the social security stuff and wee tiny little union check. Added to the military retirement it covers things nicely if I can ever figure out how to do the social security portion of the 1040.

Michael, I get Navy retirement (a whole 17K/yr) and have to live off my full time job, to support my wifes horse addiction. That will have to end soon.. but may never own property as we cannot sell what we have. I plan on working until I fall over, as my employer will not force you to retire (which I am eligible of now). You make choice and live with the results, unless you are in that huge majority that now exists in wonderland...

1988 to 1998 to 2008 to 2012 twenty two years for my military retirement to double. Check out the cost of living for that length of time. When you get to Social Security age it will roughly double the total assuming it still exists and you wait until one year prior or full amount. I did one year prior. So far the government has reneged on every retirement benefit. bar none including keeping pace with COL Increases. To pump it up I went to sea which doubled my social security. You might think about Mexico. or other places or even bite the bullet and go join the navy wannabe's in MSC. Takes six months to get in and training the vacation time is crap and they spend most of their time making up fibs but if yiou have a skill such as comms, interior electrician, engine room etc.things get better. jGalley belongs to the PI's or the PR's. Union is slow since their is no war but with iyour background MSC might work. If you have a Z card already that helps. Supply class ships went to MSC and some sub tenders and others also tugs and tankers but Supply class unless they upgraded wee paying about $900 a month extra for substandard quarters - no rooms just bays but a lot less people. In the brochure you see a nice stateroom but that's for ships officers. They will say four on two off but it's more like six to eight on and one off if you answer the phone. the pools are in Norfolk and San Diego. The HQ is Norfolk over by the airfield training is in North Jersey just south of Sandy hook pier

Exactly. Thought it might be useful to get some last minute before Social Security Shekels in the system and max out the eventual draw. That's the big advantage. I went over everything and max's the amounts where possible. If everyone put their skills to work all the producers would move to the head of the line and Robin hood their money back from the Moochers.

i think the deal is if you use the approved software and there is an error the software company is supposed to be on the hook. The IRS doesn't care about such rules. I've done the social security four five years now. The first three they refunded money when I asked for as check over because the social security was not done correctly. Didn't explain why? had I not asked zippo. This current year it worked out following directions to agree with the amounts refunded for paying over which I didn't change. Instead of a small refund I received no notification at all. There is an IRS site where you can check on whereabouts or status of your tax payment. It said no refund pay x amount more. We sent a letter on June 3rd. The distance is Atlanta to my USA address in Northern Florida. No letter as of June 21. As my sister put it they might not send the letter until months down the road and then fine you for not paying. they don't really care. So...July 1st the new payment goes out. Still don't know how to do the social security portion. They aren't telling etiher. I was able to see my 1040 and the referenced parts were blanked out. The references on how to do it led to two different answers both much different than what i had done and what they had stated.

So I go to Turbo Tax which means the sister unit buys two in florida I send her my information and she runs it through TT.

No signature required anymore. Who knows? I think they just get a quota of money to raise each day and divide it up on the returns passing over their desk. No other explanation.

Rand's premises are based on Aristotle. One of the prime factors is A is A. That eliminates subjective reality, and subjective "truths." A thing is what it is, not what someone imagines it is, or thinks what it may be. It is the difference between theory and actuality. Therefore, someone's reality may actually be reality, or it may not be. Someone's truth may be true, or it may not be. If we keep that in mind, then we can examine whether their pronouncements are valid or not.
The problem between us, M.A. , is that in the tree of knowledge, you are dealing in the leaves, before examining the roots and trunk. However, that does not mean you are incorrect. It means what I'm pointing out is a bit of a quibble now, but once understood will stand you in good stead.

I've thought about that, jdg. I just can't stand watching all the details when there is nothing I can do about it. I hate feeling helpless, and watching the news just makes me feel helpless and sad. If that's faking reality, well it's the only way I can survive in today's world. Now it would be very different if I were in the valley!

Ayn Rand made it clear that evil is impotent...it cannot create values. When individuals focus on negatives they make evil potent as it, not productivity, begins to drive their lives. I see this in the distorted view of Ragnar as an agent of vengeance not a philosopher returning values stolen from producers. AR showed the power of ideas in a collapsing world by her life and her work. WHy are so many unable to harness her vision and create values in a time when they are in increasing demand? If you see the world as moochers and looters then you don see it as people desperately searching for a way out, a way shown by Ayn Rand and only needing a few good people to make the difference. Don't retreat, charge!

Both good and evil are choices. And mostly, they are choices to invest in a particular outlook based on either a short-term or a long-term expectation of a return on those choices. Examine any choice and you will see that when people focus on the long-term, they generally make better choices. The only way to get people en mass to start making better choices is to present a long-term view of things. You can't just simply show them how disastrous certain repeated bad choices are, because many people want to believe that they are exempt or that the rules don't apply to them. That is the great deception being advanced, but it is neither passive nor impotent nor harmless.

They most certainly are individual choice. Evil is the choice of those who know they are doing wrong. Good is the choice of those who know they are doing right. By their own choice. Any support of evil is an admission of guilty the rest is just a plea for clemency, leniency and forgiveness from those wronged. Unfortunately it is rarely and admission of one's own nature to one's self. i was only following orders. If you say the right and moral choice is to do wrong you got some serious ethical difficulties.. The rest is self serving excuses.

Naturlik. But when it's done every four years in the face of historical fact one has to wonder at the level of ignorance. When it's done as a life time career one has to wonder about the level of ignorance of those who provide support. Or just chalk it up to making fools of most of the people most of the time. Or were they born fools?

I would suggest most use lesser of as an excuse knowing they are doing evil and thinking the word lesser will serve as an advance variation of the Nuremberg Defense - and make things all right. When societies level of expectation is self esteem with out self respect it''s still possible to look in mirrors and be satisfied - as long as they never admit to themselves they are nothing more nor less than supporters of evil - be it lesser or greater.

            Low expectations bring low results

I don't believe anyone in public office makes ignorant decisions - especially not those at a national level. They didn't get to that level by being dumb. Ideological? Absolutely. Willfully stupid? Yup. But ignorant? No.

What astounds me is the level of ignorance in the general populace. And there I do believe it is mostly just general ignorance. Culturally ingrained ignorance and foolishness.

I would point at the huge budget busting pork bill passed recently where Comrade Pelosillyni said you have to pass it before you can read it.

To my mind that was 535 plus one national level public office holders making an ignorant decision - it dumbfounded me. Stupid? As it turns out no. They got away with it. Biggest heist in history. Which agrees with the level of ignorance of the general population. I used that term on purpose they made their own prison so stupid and ignorant fools fit quite perfectly.

A soldier would look at them and say...are they really worth fighting for? No. But the Constitution is. Remember your oath of office - and keep your powder dry.

Again, I don't believe they were totally ignorant. They chose not to take the time to read and debate the bill (and it wasn't all 535, but I get what you are saying). That to me is a willfully evil act on the part of those who participated. It is shirking responsibility. There is no way I'm giving Ms. Pelosi - or the Republicans like Boehner which went along with her - a pass due to ignorance, however.

All including Bush are Republicans or Democrats and believe like all good socialists in Government control of citizens by any and all means. The essence of fascism.

close to 60,000 few means two or three. not counting the rest of one side and the entire other side. the actual ratio and the only difference besides corporatist and statist socialists is the ratio in wars started by each side in numbers killed. Change that to Republican and Democrats. One US service member killed in wars started by Dumbo to 18 in wars started the Burritos - since the end of WWII. the assumption is Democrats want to cut down on the armed forces without major expenditure and republicans want them back to work in the factories. the other assumption is one side only votes for wars but neither supports them after words nor knows how to conduct one.

It's not however enough of a difference to make them separate parties. All groups have their dumb asses

Some will glance at this and take exception to call anyone especially a leftie a fascist. For their benefit. Left wing is belief in government controlling citizens, Fascist is by any means needed. Ergo Sum both GOP and DEM are considered left wing fascist. GOP heavily socialist corporatist, DEM heavily Socialist Statist put it all together whatcha got? The Wicked Witch of the Left running a two faced one party system of government.

the rest as FFA suggested is just personal preference.

On more than one occasion. It's where I learned to respect the opponents and despise the REMFs. Did time in Korea up on the DMZ and several other fun places. Aviation asset wise we lucked out. Even up close to the DMZ in Vietnam and the Laotian border we were blessed with air superiority. Except for close air support which was helicopters that worked as best the could and fighter jets that flew too fast and would not lay in ordnance close enough. Metrical Division, not mine, was close by. Metrical really sucked in all respects That's about enough of that. I really wish those dumb shit Democrats had stayed off the subject a few elections ago. you almost put it behind and then.. up pops that asshole Kerry. Three scratches and he turns and runs abandoning the people he was supposed to be leading. He was a REMF then and is a REMF now. On the other hand if you forget you get people like Kerry. So??? Last comment. I recall the end and the aftermath. Then along came Kuwait and all the younger than me moms and dads were waving the flag again. They knew of me and asked what I thought. "Be the first one on your block to have your kid come home in a box. Are you SURE it's worth it? Are you going to support these KIDS regardless? It's not a video game with a GD restart button.

We all know how that turned out.

Which is a good reason for Moms and Dad to not vote for the Democrats if they have offspring in the military. 18 to 1 death ratio of US Service Personnel with a Demo versus a Dumbo in the White House since WWII. One reason US military runs 70% plus anti Democrat. It's not racial or sexist - it's survival.

If he hadn't and notice I said after WWII the ratio would be a lot bigger than 18 to 1. I think we lost 250,000 dead in that one. It has to do with no idea what they are doing combined with micro-management and a fear of doing something offensive.

The Malthusian theory is simply wrong. Everyone went nuts over Paul Ehrlich's the population bomb in the 70's written as one of the key pieces of the 'green' movement, it predicted mass starvation in the 70's and 80's as the population rose.

We have more people now than he said that the earth could support, but starvation has decreased rather than increased. Like most 'greens' he failed to take into consideration the improvements in technology that allow us to feed more with less.

And like most 'greens' when proven wrong, he simply repeats his claim. We have increased population as he predicted but without catastrophe -- so he simply delays the prediction.

But population will not grow without limits. Even as early as Rome we have evidence that a well-off, educated population has a lower birth rate.

All advanced nations have lower than replacement birth rates now, some of them rather drastically. Singapore is down to 1.29 births per woman, South Korea 1.30, Japan 1.41. Birth rates this low can cut a population in half in less than two generations. This has serious impact on retirements.

Many countries are actively trying to increase birth rates -- with little success. Immigration keeps the U.S. expanding but as the third world becomes better educated and more affluent -- and that's happening -- birth rates will fall there as well.

The total population will continue to rise, due to longer lives until around 2050 when we will see a peak population. Some predict as high as 10 billion but I think that it will be less, perhaps 9.5 billion.

We can feed 9.5 billion. If we keep increasing CO2, that will be even easier since we are seeing increased plant growth as a result of the more favorable conditions. And warmer is generally better than colder.

If we could just get the 'greens' to get out of the way we can expand nuclear energy and provide a decent standard of living for the world.

    The apocalypse has been canceled.

Over the millennia man has exhibited brief flashes of lucidity and rational thinking but for the most part he is driven by emotion. This fact is not lost on the pragmatic tyrant who knows how to use this "character flaw" to gain and preserve power. The tyrant knows that for the bulk of humanity belief trumps understanding. The reason for this is straightforward, belief is easy while understanding is hard and most of us chose the easy path over the one more difficult. Rational thinking requires the suspension of belief and that is a very difficult thing to do.

I saw that normal, everyday people are smarter than one gives them credit for. I compare all this talk about climate change with my own limited experience. I conclude that whatever is happening is doing so slowly and will give us all enough time to adapt. Secondly, there have been a lot of documented heatings and coolings of the world over the ages that have nothing to do with human activity. Thirdly, the earth is BIG and heavy and is heated from its center a LOT. Its just hard for me to figure that buring fossil fuels like we do even comes close to the amount of heat thats generated from the earth's core or the sun. And Fourthly, a few degrees might mean some people in India need to move or be underwater, but its not going to result in apocalyptic changes in the world. Call me stupid, but I see this climate thing as an excuse for political hidden agendas.

You can blame William Randolph Hearst for taking what was a fringe element of discussion, mostly by dedicated religionists, and turning it into mainstream thinking. He was famous for his statement about the news, "If it bleeds, it leads," meaning stories of horror and tragedy were more prone to catch the reader's attention. He set the trajectory of news media in this country, after almost singlehandedly starting the Spanish-American war by blaming the Spanish for the sinking of the USS Maine, by innuendo, not evidence. We have become attuned to look for the negative instead of the positive, as fear is a primal driver of human nature, which Hearst recognized and was a master at exploiting.

Here's a positive thought. Using the right descriptive phrases cause understanding. Next year I'm using Turbo Tax. Why go to all the bother when the explanatory rules are not written in legible North American English?

Second it's not tip, propina, baksheesh, dash, bribe nor blackmail. Income tax in it's present form or any form is a government run protection racket with the government exempt from racketeering charges and no discernible requirement to give return value. Let's all vote for continued corruption! It's the new American way! Only the Government Party gives four names and no choices.

Reading the comments below I'm beginning to believe that the gov't must be reading this forum. Why continue spouting palatives from Ayn Rands philosophy. I believe in many of her principles but no one is answering the lead in question.
I have been writing comments of what I see ahead and I know it's not a pretty picture. Secession is going to happen and it can't be stopped. The crushing debt that has been rung up by the gov't will be the main factor in the dissolution. There are some states on the verge of bankrupcy and I'm sure the American Citizens will not pickup the tab via the the Govt wanting to bail out those states. So, in reality China will by defacto. That would be a bad day!

Too late for that I believe the largest foreign land owners are from England and it varies after that. But absent any credible collateral for debt besides faith and fear little else remains except becoming a soft currency and definitely no longer the world benchmark. Thus the house of cards falls. I refer of course to federal land about 33% of the nation total area. Although State owned lands could well serve the same purpose. The reason is to offer something of value for the money we are asking them to loan us to maintain our status as the world's largest debtor nation - and one that has shown zero signs of paying off but every sign of ensuring the interest earned is less than the loss of value.

Ever try to find out the number of registered third party or independents per State. Some have them but for most there's a little sentence that lists all of them and the write in votes as being folded into the leading vote getters column.

Just as a suggestion If a State was declared bankrupt would they use the Greek solution or perhaps replace the state government with a State Manager until solvency had been reinstated.

Of course that would be a federal decisions but they are vassal sates after all.

And there is all that state owned land that could be sold to pay the debt.

We have a different kind of doomsday scenario at our house. My wife gravitates to the people calling for the end of the dollar, the total economic collapse of the USA, what will we do? The bank will take away everything!

I believe each one of these guys from Harry Dent to Jerome Corsi have something to sell, and if they can scare you enough, you will buy the book, video, or subscription just to hear them out.

I wish there was someone raving on about how successful we will be by carefully analyzing the situation, changing an appropriate amount of investments to "hard" assets and collecting lease payments into 7 figures over a few years. But alas, there are no books, videos, or subscriptions to sell for that story. That's the one she sees everyday. And it is work, just like any other profession.

The reason people buy zero percent T Bills is the government isn't going broke per se. In the event of a collapse as happened in 2008 the most those investors lose is loss of buying power. In a bank the most you can get back without a lot of complicated effort is $250,000.00 FDIC and that might be in US Savings Bonds.

The only one's to lose are the elderly and retirees. In effect the inflation, devaluation and debt repudiation keep the government solvent and the checks flowing. Everyione is so afraid that will stop they never yell What about the Cola adjustment on the 30% loss in value you caused. Side note. The banks and others didn't do a damn thing the government didn't authorize them to do or order them to do. not that they minded. When a third of competition is wiped out it's mother lode time.

the only thing that can go wrong is if they truly do go bankrupt and the printing presses stop completely. Figuratively speaking. Somehow they come out smelling like a rose but the screwed the rest of us and the world for that matter big time. Next time before you vote remember BOHICA and check for sand in the vaseline. For the majority there was no success. Not with a 30 or so percent increase in the cost of living and a corresponding decrease in value of the dollar

THAT is one of the other ways you are taxed with what amounts to a tax on a tax on a tax. It isn't done accidentally. It's how they can run up the debt and then make it disappear...except for Grandpa and Grandma. Most of whom are dumb enough to keep voting for the hand in their pocket anyway.

My Uncles mother in law died. He and his wife settled the estate. A credit card company ignored the cancellation and charged another annual fee. then started dunning for non payment with fines and interest. The Uncle finally sent them the address so they could go after the mother in lawl They turned it over to credit collection. It was the Graveyard and Plot Number. they will also try to get relatives to pay. Best thing is ignore them most states have a deal so that a certain period of time with no account activity cancels the account. But no one in government is trying to stop them from stealing the last pennies from the eyes of the corpse. more than likely they would ask for a few more years income tax. ask? Demand is more like it. I told them he should send an anonymous letter suggesting foreclosure and ask a judge for the title to the new address

And if there is none? The neighbors? No immediate family and no inheritors. I don't intend to leave enough to pay for the funeral. Only thing to fear is if some asshole keeps me alive for the monthly retirement income. You know the all to cruel and usual end of life punishment. By then I'll the government pay the bill, room, board, medicine over at the VA. By then it will be about time they made good on something.

                          GRIN what WAS I thinking????

you can find out online but I don''t think so. Champus/Tricare now known as Tricare For Life is for full retirement.

Correct if you are on retired pay you should be on Tricare. To be on tricare when you start social security you are required under Obamacare to be on Medicare Part B and D. It's fairly automatic. So far medicare B and D is a one hundred a month expenditure for which I've received two flu shots in five years. Cheaper to just go to the doctor south of the border. Tricare is of no use outside the USA nor is Medicare. But then the costs down here are less than Delta Dental Premiums for one example. I view all that tricare-Medicare stuff as a long shot high odds bet but use DAN air medevac for when the serious stuff starts.

Everything Government does is negative, Everything government says is the opposite from the truth. You have to wonder sometimes, because what they say or do, are they really that dumb? Is that possible or do they really think that Your that dumb? I say the latter is the case. As for us? speaking of the negative...we are venting, letting others know. But I see a few now, speaking of what we can do, emphasizing the good things we do, the good things to come. Truth is, climate is changing and it ain't gona get warmer; our shields are down, probably 20-25% by now, the last report from NASA was 15% in 2013. The magnetic poles are shifting, an outcome yet to be determined. But overpopulation is the last of our worries. The only population I would like to see reduced is that of all government...It does not protect, it does not inform nor empower and if I could profit from telling people that...so be it...it would give me the needed funds to prepare for what seems logical.

Electro Magnetic Pulse is a very real threat, and so is the Neutron Bomb, the later is the -product of a fusion explosion (Think Star Trek, Anti-Matter & etc..) the science exists only in theoretical physics. The former, also the product of a nuclear explosion, and is an intentional tactic to deny an enemy any use of magnetic energy which is very open ended, no car built after 1979 will run and those before that will have to be hand cranked. Telephones, computers and anything that uses transistors or micro chips will not work.
Putin is not that stupid MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) is very much in existence, even now, and neither the Clintons or Putin are that stupid.. There is no value in conquering salted earth. Only the rag headed sand people are that stupid, in their quest to meet Allah.
And Rush is right, the Kooks who spread this crap cost the worlds' economy hundreds of billions a year. The worst part of that is that these sick people always have some perverted personal profit scheme in mind when they dream this crap up!

will "shadow you and your devices" and allow you
to survive intact? . just a space blanket with a cute
      logo attached? . I bet that it's already taken. == j

    johnpe 1,

you are correct about their desire for money.
Limbaugh is correct about these people being wrong, they are the ones who need to be incarcerated in a looney binn.

I saw the article this morning and just shook my head.

Don't worry, folks. When it is time for us all to go to hell in a hand basket, that will be the signal for the mothership to return (referencing The History Channel's "Ancient Aliens") with a good book all of their own--

Sorry, I just couldn't resist going through with this post after it germinated in my old dino imagination.
Mr. Chambers must have looked most especially tasty.
Would you believe I viewed the original broadcast when my folks had four whole channels to watch? It's one of my favorite TZ episodes.

Southern Oregon 1954. One black and white channel KBESTV for six or eight hours a day. The edges of the TV were rounded. When they couldn't fill a time slot Some dude would play Song of India on an Organ. Exactly at midnight the wake you soumd meant you had missed the national anthem. Same one used at the drive in and indoor theatre. You could watch Roy Rogers chase bad guys around the same five trees and two big rocks then Gene Autrey and Hopalong Cassidy going the other way. No one asked why the Lone Ranger called his sidekick Fool! Green Lantern meant everything as did TV versions of various radio shows. Some years later a second channel was offered. From there it got worse. Jump ahead to 1994. Sold the TV haven't watched one since. If it's good I get the DVD. If not I watch a good classic movie on DVD and now all on an external hard drive. It's 2015 for weather I look out the window and drive a bicycle or a kayak or just...walk.

"According to the report, “Humans will probably be extinct within 100 years, because of overpopulation, environmental destruction and climate change.”

The above doesn't quite cover the spectrum, as it omits Wars and other nasty things which are always accomplished by Force,,, Force being the the exclusive province of GOVERNments while decreed "illegal" to the masses.

If I were to "pray" it would be for the Global Great Collapse, which will have the happy effect of putting the Rulerships out of business, hopefully forever. Otherwise the next century will be our last!

It's either that, or the extinction of life on Planet Earth. Mankind can then, use it's "intelligence" to create a society of harmony and true Liberty. Will it?

That meaning the proposition that terrans will be extinct in one hundred years is a bigger whopper than the DNA discovery to reverse aging. That one would take two hands to handle for sure. Never happen - I would believe in a serous non-food production, non-food distribution state the available sustenance would be reserved for the congressional dining rooms and the protective echelon. Assuming the entire planet doesn't blow up or the Reverse Big Bang doesn't change it's schedule.
