Late news- the rescue by helicopter is underway.
This is the detail of what happened-
The Russian captain would have been aware of the ice build-up and normally, would have moved out. But, a sight-seeing group had gone 120km inland. The weather changed on the return, they were so late back that the captain could not get out of the building-up ice. Thus the captain may be in the clear.

My comment- these are the people who smother us with health safety environmental regulations which do not apply to them, ice breakers and helicopters paid for by us are available.

More amusement:
The climate scientists, journalists and green politicians had all possible communications links including almost real time wind and ice coverage from satellites. But there was no meteorologist on board who could have found and read the information available and interpreted the warnings. When stuck they “phoned a friend” who called a friend .. and Johnathon Coleman (skeptic and meteorologist) called Anthony Watts (major skeptic blogger and meteorologist) ..they are doing all they can to get the right information to the the ship.
