I'll be honest. I haven't read the book yet, but I'm already enchanted at the idea of it. I hope to learn a lot from discussions here in the Gulch, when I have the time to mingle.

    Hi Salem - Another great resource while reading the books is the Ayn Rand Institute Campus. They have free online courses on many of the Ayn Rand works in addition to short introductory courses on objectivism and capitalism, among other subjects. Definitely worth a look.

    I already really like this group and whoever is the administrator. There's seems to be some good focus on keeping the right environment. I never thought I'd feel this safe on the web. It really won't be long before I upgrade to be a producer. How many people are on here anyway?

    Hi Salem and welcome to the Gulch. Please join in the discussions. I think you will really enjoy the book. I am a slow reader and was a little overwhelmed at the size but it was well worth it.

      Thank you for that encouragement. I get so excited about so many books that I start reading a dozen at one time and then get overwhelmed & stop reading for a little bit, but I'm going to make Atlas Shrugged a priority. Although the changing of actors bothered me a bit, I did enjoy the movies so much that I finally decided to buckle down and get it read. I'm very intrigued about the people I will meet in this group. It makes me feel like hope is still alive and thriving because there are so many people that do care and are so passionate that they get this involved. :-)

        Welcome to the Gulch. Allow me to suggest that you might start with "Anthem." I did. I went from there to "The Fountainhead" (which is also a movie). Then, I turned to the two non-fiction anthologies, "For the New Intellectual" and "The Virtue of Selfishness." FNI is the easier read of those two. However, in both cases, each chapter stands alone. You miss little by reading what interests you first.

        After Atlas Shrugged, I read "We the Living." That, too, is now available as a movie. It was made in the 1940s in Italy, but only recently was remastered, with subtitles added.

        In addition, Ayn Rand's many other works are in print. "Philosophy Who Needs It" and "The Romantic Manifesto" are also anthologies of essays. Find all of those and more by and about Ayn Rand at your local library or bookstore. And the Ayn Rand Institute has its own sales, of course.

        Just to say, Atlas can be quite a bit to start with...

        This is a great group. Check in occasionally as you read the book and let us know what you think. I enjoyed the films as well but as is usually the case the book is better.

    Hi Salem, Thanks for holding the fort down while I have been finding my way here, Glad you made it too! Don't forget to watch the final day of filming (for us Producers Only), Friday 2/14. It has been a hoot.
    Learned a lot about the movie making business. Chat with other producers as they are filming live.
