The stupidity behind banning incandescent "lamps", or lightbulbs in layman's terms

This had really gotten under my skin. The fact that the replacements for incandescent are a toxic waste hazard, and are difficult to dispose of seems to have never entered into the debate. The cost over time to dispose of the compact fluorescents, and LED's far outstrips the usage of the typical incandescent lamp. They biodegrade! And that I am given NO CHOICE in the matter is galling. Regulate safety issues, like defense o our country. To regulate a lightbulb just emboldens the gov to regulate more of our personal daily existence. It has to stop.

For most applications, CFL and LED are better. I don't see why they have to ban incandescents. Some people have special apps for which incandescent works better. I've heard a lot of grumbling from other EEs about this.

BTW, CFLs emit UV radiation that could be harmful with prolonged exposure at least than 25cm, e.g. using a CFL on a workbench for electronics rework. It takes long exposure at very close range, though, to pose a risk.

      Quite true.
I was an interior designer for a while, and color temperature has a huge effect on fabrics and paints. The color renditions change dramatically depending on lighting choice. I find reading under a CFL causes a great deal of eye strain. I don't know if its just me, but I get fatigued when I do so. They have made great strides in said color rendition, but not enough to look pleasing in my view.
