I read many years ago about a group (city? tribe?) of Muslims surrounded and unable to obtain food. So they cut off one of each of the women's butt cheeks for sustenance. UGH! Probably that's where the expression half-assed comes from.

I love it, Herb! That's hilarious! In my younger days I used to read a lot of Alister Crowley. This reminds me of a story about he and 5 other people going into the mountains and only he came back. It is said that he ate them, and that he was crazy. Maybe not, perhaps he was studying Muslim as wellas Satan worship. I can see the similarities. Lol. Got my chuckle for the day.

Sounds like the movie Silence Of The Lambs. Stuffed breast of wife with fava beans and a fine Chianti. Oops cancel the latter, killing and eating one's wife is OK but a sip of wine is a death sentence.

Hannibal took revenge on rude people by killing them and eating their brains, but this was a fictional character, for crying out loud. At Donner's Pass our American pioneers had to resort to cannibalism so at least one survived. We hear of shipwrecked people in lifeboats drawing lots of who would get eaten first so the others would survive. These are extreme cases, not the norm for civilized societies.

Butt cheeks at least are surplus material that can be taken without killing the donor. Humans don't know what they are capable of when driven to the brink. The survival instinct is the default setting when anything goes. In today's world such degrees of desperation should not ever occur if we'd stop having wars and took rational steps to avoid famines and epidemics, providing an environment of productive stability and prosperity.

Is this really that much different from the bizarre customs and beliefs of other religions? Many religions seem to have rules and regs regarding what to wear, what activities are OK, what to eat, what to say, etc. Most of these prescriptions are well divorced from rationality. Also, it is not uncommon for religious leaders to "study" their sacred texts for years (centuries?) and then declare an interpretation of the deities' commands. This seems par for the course.

I thought of a bunch of comments but this is not a site for cooking Hillary's favorite investments nor for erotica. So I took the easy way out....

Well, what do you expect from a belief system
based in such irrationality? Granted, Christianity
and Judaism are also irrational, but there has been
some influence of Greek philosophy with them Also, I think
there was a time when Arabs were more rational
(when they adopted the numeral Zero), but I
think they have gone bad since then.
