A Fine Read

Anyone wanting a great book to read might look up a copy of Major William Downie's "Hunting for Gold." Downie has a county seat and a river named after him. He is perhaps the greatest prospector of them all and a CA 49er. This his account of hunting for gold. I am writing an article on Major Downie for the "Gold Prospector" and "Pick and Pan Gazette." Downieville, alias "The Forks" is my favorite Sierran town, a real gem of a beautiful place.

- 1Posted by lostsierra 11 years, 2 months agoI have never encountered corruption in Sierra County, and have been a miner and mine owner there for years. Other mine owners I know have not had corruption problems. We love the place.Mark as read | Parent | Best of... | Permalink|
