First: Only prsoners of a congressionally declared war should be treated as prisoners of war.
    Given that limitation...
If it is used in a program of carrot and stick to achieve results then it may be very useful.
I would not use it as a widespread softening of treatment for actual prisoners of war unless such treatment has been proven frequenly in the past to be successful in information retrieval from enemies.

My policy is to remove American servicemen from the area and use them to prevent illegal immigration, including removal of existing illegals from America. Give letters of marque to any legitimate applicant against any threat to American interests, for example, authorize American oil companies to legally defend their interests in the area, and to deal with ISIS threats against their employees.

I say, leave it up to those who have a vested interest and a letter of marque. Let the private sector protect itself within moral limits.

fascinating. . I happen to agree with senator Tom
Cotton's remarks in the news today. . and since I
worked at a nuke weapons plant and helped to win
the cold war, deterrence is close to my heart. -- j

The problem is that my definition of 'terrorist' likely differs from Cotton's. Those responsible for dropping the buildings on Sept 11 and those responsible for gassing and torching the innocent people in Waco are both 'terrorists' in my definition. The evidence does not agree with the fedgov's conspiracy theories on either incident. In retrospect, the evidence of aggression in mid-1941 was more clear, but in the moment according to people I know who lived it, it was not as obvious as the authors of history books describe it. The same thing is even more true today of the governmet controlled media. Is Cotton a patriot or a propagandist?
