The Fountainhead under the Bus
In case someone besides me keeps track of these references: I happen to catch an episode of "Frasier" called "Frasier's Edge," in which the character deals with mid-life crisis. Frasier confesses to his mentor that when he was 8, a larger classmate threw his copy of The Fountainhead under the bus. The novel is mentioned one other time in the series (far as I know) by Martin, Frasier's father. I wonder if Kelsey Grammer is an admirer of Rand's. If so, I've a number of signed Rand first editions and handwritten manuscripts which may interest him. Any chance KG's here in the Gultch?
Has he ever his indebtedness to AR, far as you know, for his ideas?
It IS at best "shaky," as you say. But it isn't insignificant, at least not for me.
Call me nuts, but I keep track of these things for my business.
Best, Michael
When I say The Fountainhead is "mentioned" disparagingly, that is not quite true. In the unedited version of DD, you'll see a most despicable character express admiration for The Fountainhead, though its title is never mentioned. But a focused viewer understands that the evil character is motivated by ideas he learned from that great novel.
Readers in focus know better. But what a powerful image to the teenage audience who'd never read the novel--but saw the movie.
That's most impressive and most appreciated. Home Improvement was addressed to a different audience than Frasier.
Not disparaging your notice, you understand. I appreciate it very much.
Simply didn't know about this Rand reference to her on that TV show, which I've seen.
Thanks again, so much appreciated.

Not this is something I can buy or sell, but I may use it in a description of a rare, perhaps unknown Rand-related item.
