Goodness, Euda! This is a seriously disturbing article. There is no way to turn the Venezuelan economy around by engineering a full scale assault on corporations or independent business owners. This whole ludicrous belief system of the rich have too much, make too much, therefore it needs to be given away is nothing that has ever worked in past regimes. It won't work now, either. Crash and burn is in the future of that country.

Taking care of my father-in-law and trying to finish my book.

I saw this article though and just couldn't pass it up.

We have Obama morphing daily into our Chavez.
Can our Maduro be too far behind?
      I think not.

I guess I could set up some cigars.
      Who would want them?

I might take up smoking again if I could get some $ cigars... can't recall what type I liked best, it's been 20 years or so.

Somebody should put out a line of those electric cigarettes with a $ logo on them, and/or a line of pipes with the $ logo on them...

Hmmm... Product Development Idea... take some of my cool black "Blue" e-cigs, change the LEDs on the end of the battery to green (or gold)... a little gold leaf work... I could see this... it'd have to be on the battery, tho, as the disposable cartridges would be a hassle to hand-do each one just to throw out after a couple days, tho what a statement, eh??

As to Cigars... if you can come up with the product, I know someone who would not only appreciate them, but appreciate the message of them as well!

The problem with extreme views is both sides play each other and real freedom is lost in the middle. 90% of business men are parasitic non contributors within the confines of nepotism and the good old boy system. Its the same for politicians bankers and Unions. The few who are not part of these parasites carry the load of the entire nation on their back and they are heroes. We need to find that middle road to freedom without enabling the parasites on either side to stifle us. The non contributing parasitic business men and the lazy good for nothing politicians and Unions! Don't lambast Venezuela like they are stupid. They got rid of one set of parasites. Greece may be in the dumps right now as well but guess what they took the debt makers and their buddies to the woodshed. What did we do? We allow them to print 2 trillion IN DEBT! Initially in history money was GIVEN to good causes not issued as DEBT! The US cant get rid of these parasitic monsters. In my book that makes Venezuela and Greece slightly smarter than us and slightly braver than us because they stood up to at least one set of the many parasites.

Well technically, the United States actually operates on Keynesian economics, which does certainly involve a high degree of government interference in the economy, but is still radically different from Marxist economics. The most notable difference is that Keynesianism acknowledges the fact that business and capitalism are good, unlike Marxism, which paints business owners as evil parasites. So there's not much risk of U.S. politicians taking over businesses in the way that Venezuelan bureaucrats are doing.

But anyway, that really sucks for Venezuela. And geez, a $35 toaster costing the equivalent of $175? And they say Socialism helps the poor... Please, how does making everything unaffordable help poor people at all? -_-

It took two "presidents" to "transform" Venezuela from a functioning state to a Communist shit hole.

Our current "president" is an emergent Chavez.
He and Hugo shook hands as a matter of fact.
Our Maduro can't be far behind.

I would argue that the nationalization of Auto Industries and Health Care is far more Marxist than Keynesian.

I agree very much, sir. It seems that many in the US are trying very hard to hang on to a dream of the past and a hope that it's just this one president. Just to think about all of the regulations to satisfy and hoops to jump through before making the first sale in a new business in today's US is nightmarish. Who really owns and runs the business after all of that?

It seems that our political correctness has progressed to the s##ialist word as well.

There are one of two possibilities; you were born yesterday, or, like a goose, you wake up in a new world every day.

Or maybe you were asleep the day they taught history in school.

As Dr Floyd Ferret said, times change. There was a time before Keynesian economics, there will be a time after it; hopefully that time won't be Marxist, but before the Marxists took over, wherever they took over, they were "reasonable", too.

When the Viet Cong was formed, only a small minority was communist. But, they played faction against faction, until, by the end, the communists were left in charge. (That only ended thanks to the United States military and the insane foolishness of the Tet offensive.)

TODAY it operates on Keynesian economics. Yesterday it operated on free-market capitalism. Tomorrow it may well fail-to-operate on Marxism.

Which seems darned likely, since you can't get much more Marxist than Obamacare.

Peter Mooched off Roark, then let the bad guys screw Roark over in order to protect his own ass, iirc.

well you're thinking like a hero-but Peter was conflicted over that. He needed his teat to continue to produce. He went to Hank to warn him what was happening. This is always an interesting point in any relationship. when does basic mooching turn into active and willful destruction? and why? it doesn't seem that smart to me if you are an expert moocher. even ants know to feed the aphids. But it happens. The same people who claim the need of you yesterday advocate your death today by a thousand cuts or one fell swoop-whatever
