Apocalibertarian World?

Excerpt:
"Behind the fear of a libertarian nose-wiggle is the notion that if government doesn’t force people to do good things, they simply won’t do them; that when they’re not being bullied by thugs with a license to kill, human beings are incapable of responsible behavior. According to this view, we are toddlers who will need Mommy, Daddy, Nanny, and Teacher all our lives.

I beg to differ. We are perfectly capable of cooperating peaceably with one another, engaging in trade, and caring for those who need our help."

Imo, we must establish Atlantis to prove it again to all the world's people.

The article makes great points. However, the gulch was not without government. And all its members were like minded. Imagine no government in an urban center. Crime would still occur. Who handles that? If just the "neighborhood " then you basically are back to feudal living.

In case you haven't read it, David Friedman discusses a free market approach to solving those 'public service' issues in his articles and book, The Machinery of Freedom. He's a remarkable thinker and good speaker (based on Liberty magazine editors conferences in the 90s.)
Liberty Unbound has articles scanned from the printed issues online. This search shows (for me at least) the magazine's issues with Friedman's articles:

The fear of the impact on society of a transition to the minimalist government of libertarians and objectivists is real for the dependence society that we live in today, whether transitioning rapidly or slowly. Most objectivists and libertarians seem to believe or espouse that all humans would find life better under such limited and voluntary governance, but that ignores the fact that many of the dependent wouldn't or couldn't exist in such a circumstance. The dependent society has in fact enabled those of the race that require dependent status to live, flourish, and reproduce in great numbers. Such individuals would not be able to thrive and whether their existence should be considered by the libertarian or objectivist is the question that is never addressed.
