The Software Defined Vehicle

Excerpt:
"it goes deeper than software controlling the operations of the car’s mechanical functions. Like your cellphone, the one you drive is designed to be updated – meaning its software (and so the car’s operations) can be updated essentially at will since there’s no realistic way to opt out of these updates. This is marketed as keeping the vehicle “up to date” – just like an app – and also to allow for “deeper insights into vehicle performance through telematics and diagnostics.” Those “insights” including how the vehicle is driven. The insurance mafia is keen to have such “insights” into “vehicle performance” and so of course is the government. The vehicle industry is working hard to provide them both with such “insights.”

It’s also more than just how you drive. It’s how you’ll be allowed to drive.

Also updatable."

Sometimes science fiction becomes fact and the plot of such a novel or a movie just popped into me dino's widdle head.
Due to a population explosion too big to feed created by an open borders policy in the past, a Democrat president with Deep State elites hole up inside a mountain.
Then they turn off all the motorized vehicles in the USA and wait for 20 years to pass. Wait, why not the whole world? That way, the Chinese military will stay home. A motorized vehicle can also be a boat, ship or any aircraft.
Whoa, twisted ending! Chinese hordes came and conquered in sailboats called Chinese junks.

I wonder...do these alleged "updates" still occur if your car can no longer communicate with Big Brother? The car I had previously was 3G dependent, and when Verizon discontinued its 3G support, my car could no longer talk to anyone. If I still had that car, would it be immune to any outside spying or updates or anything else they tried to do? If it would be immune, then maybe that's the answer: Hang onto a car after the xG support is no longer provided.

Aftermarket method to block the modem communication might be
a big seller (assuming it doesn't affect the driver's cellphone, too.)
It would probably also affect the vehicle's built-in GPS function.
Russian hackers are probably working on it.

TBH, as a software guy, the first thing I would do is detect how long it has been since I was able to connect. And after a certain amount of time, it would serve as a DEALER WARNING. Take it to the dealer to be dealt with.

So, anyone trying to rig this will have to do it in such a way that it THINKS it connected to the service in question, and updates that it got through.

The challenge will be that even 20yrs ago, my systems were smart enough to communicate with an encrypted/encoded/hashed message that had an implicit timestamp component to it. Todays world would be so much easier with better encryption algorithms.

This is to control the movements of all citizens who use cars. Its a power play. I ignore all other propaganda based excuses for needing this.

What do I have? Two classes of vehicles:

    (1) Motor vehicles 1987, 1992, 1993. They have rudimentary computers not connecting to anything.

    (2) Variety of horse-drawn vehicles with rudimentary auto-pilot, namely the horse's self-preservation programming. We know how to drive and how to train our horses for driving.

Might our Amish friends be onto a proper plan for the Future?
