Ugly can mean efficient and more productive, like a super insulated house instead of one with miles of glass.
A small businessman might afford this truck for his new business and have enough left over to start the
business instead of having a pretty truck that his wife wants to drive. The family wins more independence
with the ugly efficient truck.
If we are to become competitive again, ugly has to be admired for its other traits.
