Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa can have it, but the Fedgov says You Can't.

Excerpt:
" It costs about half what you’d spend to buy the least-expensive new vehicle you’re allowed to buy in America. ...
it’s tougher and simpler. Easier to fix – and less likely to break. ...
It is unimaginable in America – what has become of America – because the American government is not interested in enhancing the quality of life of Americans – much less providing them with new economic opportunities. ... The government that rules Americans wants Americans to be endlessly struggling just to make ends meet, a goal that is achieved by making everything cost more than they can afford. Picture a gerbil wheel and you will have a sense of the plan.
...
The object being to prevent the accumulation of capital by average people, so that they never become capitalists. That being a threat to state capitalism – i.e., the ownership of essentially everything that matters by the government and the corporate lampreys that feed off of it.

This is achieved by arranging things in such a way that most people spend whatever they earn just to keep up with their debts. This serves the corollary interests of the government and the financial system that bought the government more than 100 years ago (if you’re interested in learning more about that, Edward Griffin’s Creature from Jekyll Island is an excellent primer)."

We The People are but wee widdle insects deprived of the mental acuity to fathom (at times to even appreciate) the enormousness in comparison of are tiny selves the accumulated wisdom of those who art our divine octopi gods long mastering the wanton uncontollable reins of the vainglorious colossus of an ever growing big, bigger, biggest damn great and good government who loves and regulates us all for our own too oft ungrateful good.
So don't be a rat~~vote Democrat! How else can we save of democracy, save our democracy, save.... our ...democracy . . . . . ?
Remember, folks, a vote for Pinocchio Joe is a vote to keep Dr. Jill in the White House. Man, does that First Lady so dearly loves to live in her residential palace so, so ever so much.

Well, at least it's not a cookie cutter version of everything else, but no matter how you "look" at it, it, like most of the others, its UGLY.

      It's a truck. ;^)
imo, Japan has to make these to compete with China. If Detroit wants to survive, so do they.
Ugly can mean efficient and more productive, like a super insulated house instead of one with miles of glass.
A small businessman might afford this truck for his new business and have enough left over to start the
business instead of having a pretty truck that his wife wants to drive. The family wins more independence
      with the ugly efficient truck.
If we are to become competitive again, ugly has to be admired for its other traits.

I know, but it didn't have to be ugly. Sorry, I'm a car guy and they got to look good. Designers these days can't design shit, never mind utility and ergonomics.
If ugly insures success then we've already won. Except for maybe 10 vehicles most Everything, including stuff outside of cardom/Truckdom is UGLY...even ME!
        LMAO

Sticking with my F-150, over 200,000 miles and still going great. Wish I still had my Subaru GL (1985), and my '68 Mustang... powers that be don't want long-living cars, in fact don't want cars at all--for us. Mobility equals freedom, and freedom equals the possibility of making a better life. A very big NO-NO for the likes of us.

That's pitiful. We gave up/traded in our 17-YO Tacoma when we moved to Arizona and we've already missed it so many times. This would be a no-brainer. We'd probably have one by the end of the day, fully paid for, if it were available.

I did a little more research on the new Toyota HiLux pickup truck and why it isn't sold here. It's all based on the Chicken Tax that was passed by Congress in the 1990's. Also, another reason is the Fed's claim that not enough of them are being built, which seems lame and that it doesn't meet crash standards. Toyota states that it does and body panels are easily replaced. Maybe Toyota could do a stripped-down version of the Tacoma and call it Tacoma HiLux since the two vehicles are very similar.

I used to have an early 90's Chevy S-10. Drove like a sports car because it had the big V6 that some of the full size trucks had. Got banged into a thing or two on the farm (my brother driving) and I once got stuck between other cars on freeway, dinging up both front and rear bumpers. The value then was low enough that the insurance company "totaled" it and let me keep it for a check for whatever the value was. I took it and kept driving it. Ended up giving it to a down on his luck friend who needed a vehicle. Was able to do some of the work on it myself, was toughest vehicle I've ever had and last I heard, it was still running. Now I can't even afford to buy a truck... maddening what they've done to the truck and auto market/industry.

I never thought I would buy a Japanese truck... until I drove a Tundra. And it was expensive. Very expensive.

The thought of getting a Toyota truck for $13K is just a dream come true.

I wonder if I could buy one on the "Gray Market"

I would do it in a heartbeat.
