NIH brags about using tax dollars to fund black diversity hires in research

Excerpt:
"Even as diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts draw increased scrutiny at the state level, a federal government agency is bragging about promoting DEI — and using Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars to do it.

“Progress” is how National Institutes of Health diversity officer Marie Bernard recently described the agency’s work to fund more research by black scholars.

But the massive amount of time and money the NIH is dedicating to DEI in higher education is anything but “progress” when the color of a person’s skin or their “gender identity” is weighed more heavily than their merit.
...
the NIH Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation initiative, which “target[s] early career faculty who have an interest and commitment to [diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility].”

That initiative awarded more than $64 million to four universities earlier this year for the purpose of recruiting more “diverse” faculty. And it’s the third round of awards – meaning that is just a fraction of the total funding."

From the article: "Meanwhile, professionals are expressing concerns about DEI efforts leading to a lower caliber of students and recent graduates, including future doctors and military leaders." Lower caliber is inevitable because the standards must be lowered to extract candidates from a smaller population. If the goal is to hire at least 20% to 50% black candidates from 13% of the population, then it's not hard to conclude at least 7% to 37% will be less than stellar. This isn't always true as evidenced by the NHL and NBA, but I figure we're not talking sports here.

I agree that mathematically that must be true unless there is some innate racial advantage that is not evident.
      In my opinion:
      1) the number of pro athletes required is tiny compared to the number of doctors needed
      2) doctors haven't been educated to be problem solvers toward eliminating a patient's disease in the past 75 years.
The training has been in recalling what drug is used to treat the patient's symptoms only, making the
patient dependent on pharma and for repeated visits padding the doctor's revenues.
      3) Scarcity of competent physicians is desired by the AMA and competency has been almost eliminated, imo.

"Milton Friedman warned back in 1961 that the American Medical Association was a government-sanctioned guild
or trade cartel that would raise health care costs and diminish quality. Today, most economists agree with him.
That’s because the costs of AMA’s aggressive tacticts to keep physician wages up by, among other things,
imposing onerous licensure rules, capping the number of new doctors, and harassing nurses, midwives etc.
who can treat certain routine conditions more cheaply than doctors have become painfully obvious:

According to a 2007 study by McKinsey&Company, physician compensation bumps up health care
spending in America by $58 billion annually, on average, because U.S. doctors make twice as much as their
OECD peers. And even the poorest in specializations like radiology and surgery routinely rake in around $400,000
      annually."

Don't forget the "lawyer tax" on the whole healthcare industry as well.

👍 Not to mention the inflation effects since the 2007 study has
probably more than doubled the physician incomes.
Only 4% annual increase doubles in that 17 years.
Since Nixon closed the gold window, 4% annual
would result in prices rising to 800% of prices in
that year. We know that even government stats show
inflation was much greater than that in the 70's and 80's.
Then the fedgov stopped reporting honest inflation.
The dollar is worth about 1/15 of its value before gold
          backing was abandoned.
