I will never forget 1968 and the Democrats in Chicago. I was headed for my home at Ft Hood Texas and had to pull off the road because I saw a fleet of buses leaving the Post. I looked carefully and viewed the passengers and found they were Army soldiers in battle dress. A lot of gear was on top of each bus. I knew they were headed for an airport not too far away. I put down my head and started crying. U. S. Army troops being deployed inside the U.S. My husband had been coming home weary night after night and finally I asked what are you doing? He mouthed 'Garden Plot'. I said, 'What the area around your facility looks just fine?' He looked at me like I was from another planet and said, 'Zelda, Garden Plot is a code name for Crowd Control'. I shut up and didn't ask where he would be doing crowd control but as I viewed the buses it struck me they were going to Chicago. At ten o'clock that night I caught him on the news recognizing him jumping out the back end of a C135 in Chicago. The Base Personnel office rang my phone and said, 'Your husband arrived safely at his destination!' O boy I needed that, more tears.Sleepless nights.

In 1968 I had my priorities in life, politics was not one.
