BTW, when me dino was earning my degree in journalism, I was taught to never write "hung" or "hunged" but to always write "hang" or "hanged" when a rope or torn bed sheets were used to kill somebody.
During the Seventies when I spent 7 years as a reporter/photographer, a sheriff's department had me photograph two different inmates who hanged themselves in a jail cell, buying said photos from my employer.
The state prison I later worked in for 21 years later did not have all those overhead pipes. So no state inmates ever hanged themselves during that time.
All I remember about the first one is that my hands shook. That's because I was used to photographing bodies on the ground or the floor or in a wrecked car. That hanging body being above me spooked me somehow.
The second one did not bother me because I knew what to expect. Before hanging himself, that inmate used a piece of chalk to write an apology to the relatives of an old lady he had robbed, raped and killed all alone in her house.
I copied it all down in a notebook I carried and included it in an article that appeared on the newspaper's front page.
