Nice post…. Ernest Raymond’s theme, one that resonates very deeply with me, is that we read great works of literature not for entertainment, not as an escape from reality, but rather as a way of establishing “communication with the master spirits” who help us see with keener eyes, hear with livelier ears, and think with subtler brains. The value of literature lies in its ability to sharpen, galvanize, clarify, and enrich life. Once you can read and comprehend you have the tool for all further education.
Thank you. As the secondary care giver of a toddler since she was an infant, I'm on the lookout for good info on early childhood development. I've learned a lot from Lisa Vandamme. Here's more about her. https://centerforindividualism.org/ho...
My wife has specialized in early childhood education, and she created a business called Cardiokids. The business was traveling around the twin cities to pre schools and she would create a themed exercise class ex: trip to the orchard. It the movements of the workout ,the kids would reach high to pick an apple and so on.I n addition She also taught a class of special needs pre schoolers ,did that for 8 yrs. One of her main goals was to do things to build confidence and self-esteem. At one time she was working with over 1000 kids each month doing Cardiokids. When out we would see some of those kids ,who are no adults and they would call her CardioKim, It was kind like she was a small local celebrity. I h@ve told her that she is a hero and has touched 1000,s of young lives at a most impressionable age.
John Holt; How Children Fail, 1964 and How Children Learn, 1967.
My dad used these as guideline when he started teaching in 1970. High School English/Speech and communication. They prompted him to introduce Scrabble to the classroom. Enthusiasm for the exploration of the basics of language ...... most fundamental criteria required for success.
If you can find a copy of the video; "What You Are Is Where You Were When" by Morris Massey is regarding values development. Released 1976. I do have, I think, a digital copy .... somewhere. Can burn another disk if the VHS holds out!
Very good, I will look these up. Regarding the basics of language, that is essential. I read that when phonics was replaced by see and say, the vocabularies of older kids were cut by more than half. On top of that, the meaning behind the words were unclear. Of course, that allows for the stolen concepts of today.
"We" are creatures of expressive language. Through expressive language we have become Traders. We trade in emotional, technical and commercial realms. Definition. Syntax. Context. One may not rush the life experiences that bring ontological meanings. Enthusiasm is the primary vehicle to explore all realms.
First step is to learn to express emotional state. I used this, via Holt, to identify a reticence to engage in new skill sets, while trying to train a couple of employees years past. One was 25 y/o, the other 55. Same boundary for both. Unreconciled surety/fear dynamic. Got to the point: It's OK to screw up, let me know how this goes ..... The dynamic shifted from a focus of what I may see as method or finished product to a personal inquiry toward excellence. This may also be found in John Taylor Gatto's; Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling (Seven-Lesson Schoolteacher)
Very good, thanks, and I'll look into Gatto's book. As you say, it is the experience that gives meaning to the purpose. The value achieved and its journey are integrated. It's hard to believe that these destroyers are so malicious and so numerous, but I'm becoming convinced more than ever that nearly all are unwitting dupes to the moral code of altruism.
I have three works that express the expanse of human awareness. Less than 100 pages. Took a while to find and integrate.
Rand: The Objectivist's Ethics. Bynner: The Way Of Life According To Lao Tzu (American prose interpretation of Tao te'ching published in 1944) Appleton: What is the human mind ..... first part here (https://metamind.quora.com/What-is-th...) Dec of 2021.
Bynner was first 45 years ago. Rand came 10 years ago and Appleton only 2ish.
Rand has a little hole. When I apply the emotional/empathetic of "I Care", it then takes on deeper meaning.
Awareness Involvement Commitment Evaluation Insight Faith (in the process and by testing objective reality) Wisdom (full of hope on this) LOL!
