Objectivism is a philosophy that proves nearly all commonly held belief systems to be false. As such, there are elements of all of them on all public forums, including this one. Although their mission includes "active online community focused on the propagation of Ayn Rand's ideas," those ideas are largely absent from the content and administration of this site. I have been a "Proud Producer" since the inception, but the concept of 'producer' is lost in the sea of religious conservatism and libertarian anarchy.
I believe the creation of this site was to promote the AS trilogy and Ayn Rand, which has been done quite heavily for several years, but as many of those topics were discussed over and over the site broadened by way of the "Ask The Gulch" invitation. I enjoy the wide range of discussion here. Most of it revolves around current events. IMHO, there's a decent mix of information, deep discussion, and a sense of humor.
Yes, I think the creation of this site coincided with the release of AS Part II, but I may be a little off. Also, I think I owe you an apology for directing a response to a comment that I thought came from someone else. You didn't deserve that. Regarding this site, it's dominated by politics, and that would be fine if the political ideas were supported by their underlying ethical principles, and in turn supportable by reason and reality. When I bring up the irrationality of someone's post, that isn't always appreciated.
I agree. I've read worse comments, much worse, in my years here. This site was more devoted to the ideas expressed by Ayn Rand when I joined 7 to 9 years ago. Many, if not most, commenters had read her books and newsletters. Galtsgulchonline seems to have lost its philosophic way.
I am both constitutional conservative (in its proper context) and Christian, I've been here a good long while, I've never hid this from anyone, and appreciate the discussions, even when there are differences of opinion. I can't see any reason why anyone would attempt to hinder mshupe's posts.
Aside from manually un-hiding each post is there a way to do it once for all posts?
Thank you for having principles. The reason is that some of my comments were considered ad hominem. When I decide to challenge an irrational idea, my comment is directed at the individual and I give examples. Apparently, someone thinks it's better to vague, and at the same time, disparage the fundamentals of Objectivism without recourse.
Because The Gulch has a sort of REDDIT like voting system. I can unhide posts so that I can see them. Anytime I see something like that I vote it up, even if I don’t like the comment, so it hopefully becomes visible again. I welcome all points of view and want to see as many as I can. The Gulch has drifted a bit to the right. Or has it just stayed steady and society has gone Left? There’s a lot of irrational thought here at times. Sometimes from yours truly. If rational thinking came easy….Ayn wouldn’t have written a book about it.
Still in all there should not be any contradictions on this site. As Rand wrote “Rationality is the recognition of the fact that existence exists, that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it, which is thinking—that the mind is one’s only judge of values and one’s only guide of action—that reason is an absolute that permits no compromise—that a concession to the irrational invalidates one’s consciousness and turns it from the task of perceiving to the task of faking reality—that the alleged short-cut to knowledge, which is faith, is only a short-circuit destroying the mind—that the acceptance of a mystical invention is a wish for the annihilation of existence and, properly, annihilates one’s consciousness.” https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7242...
It appears that mshupe violated Gulch Code of Conduct and the Gulch Admin applied restrictions. The admin should have contacted him and explained why this happened and how long the restrictions last.
They did. A complaint about ad hominem comments I made in response to ad hominem comments about anyone who may disagree. If I think it's warranted, I will call out irrational ideas individually instead of pointing fingers at some vaguely defined collective.

Edit add: fixed a spelling goof. Thanks j_IR1776wg.
