I lived part-time in Nantucket, very near Martha’s Vineyard, for many years. Nantucket people are either blue-collar or ultra-leftist snobs. The former are either hostile to the rich and think nothing of cheating them or are honorable and greatly frustrated by everyone else. A traffic cop complained that, when he put parking tickets on cars that blocked the dropoff and pickup spots at the airport terminal, he usually got told off: “F you. To me the fine is pocket change. You can’t interfere with me and we both know it.”
