Police training is governed by lawyers whose first concern is the potential liability of the city government. Unlike military, who focus on the mission, which in this case would have been to rescue the children, the cops are trained to take the most conservative, safest action that will result in the least violence BY THEM!

A military team would have made a quick assessment of the situation and gone in to neutralize the threat as quickly as possible, weighing the risk as acceptable in order to save as many children as possible. The police, even in the presence of a violent offender, are directed to use non-lethal means to control the situation if they can, and cause as little damage as possible in the process.

Law enforcement thinking also has to be affected by the idiotic attitude toward police these days, with the outright lies about all cops being homicidal, racist maniacs, and cries to defund the police. Every cop has to think what happens if they uses "too much" force or draws their firearm, and the chance that they could wind up being subject to criminal charges, possibly being sued by the family of the perpetrator.

As the line from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice goes, "First we kill all the lawyers."

This comes from people's attitude about government, their refusal to recognize that the only justification of government is to protect man (all right, human beings) from force (including fraud and violence,) and to punish same. Therefore the police are one of the few really legitimate functions of government. But people don't want to accept that, they want to waste the people's money on the welfare state, public mis-education, etc.

As soon as I heard this story I went through the roof! I was and remain livid about it. I normally don't worry about crap I can't control (gotten much better at that) but those who did this need jail time and to have their pensions taken away. If those were my kids in there I would have gone in or done a hell of a lot of damage to those who'd try to stop me. The details of this story are sickening. This is what caused me to say that I think America's finished (and have a member here start making personal insults to me over that statement). These cops are cowards.

Cowards, or part of the plan. I think they are part of the plan and are told to stand-down so that many children will die and the government can use it to take our guns. BTW some parents did try to get in the building and they were arrested.

My husband went into law enforcement after 20 years in the Army. He was in combat three times, in Korea during the Conflict, and twice in Viet Nam. He'd been shot at and hit! He had a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for Valor. I thought he'd lost his mind. I wanted him to finish college and teach. He was only 37 years old! Instead he joined our local Police Dept and in no time at all had his Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Certifications in law enforcement. He earned a degree in Law Enforcement and one in Safety. Then he joined the Sheriff's Dept and in two months was made Lieutenant! The Sheriff asked him once where his partner was and he reached in the back of his vehicle and pulled out his shotgun! Then he took over as Chief of the Local Community College, set up the program, and began training youngsters to go into law enforcement. He put the first women on patrol in our county. He was so successful he was hired to head up another city college district in Texas where he had five campuses. I was happy. He was happy. He was teaching and not 'engaged' to the extent I feared. He did, however, impress a lot of young minds and point them in the right direction. He was fearless. I saw him shoot the head off a rattlesnake on a concrete porch with three adults standing still and no ricochet! He could handle firearms! Well, his Army MOS was Combat Arms! These young police officers we have in our cities haven't had his experience. They don't have his confidence and knowledge of survival. Training is the answer. I think police officers need to spend at least six weeks in training at a military facility and learn about combat arms procedures. That would get rid of their Mass Hysteria to some extent. Gaining confidence in ones self is what is required for any brave action.

I have to ask "Where was the Chief? It is his job to lead that's why he is called ''The Chief'. There's your coward. Hooray for the brave parents who rescued their babies! Someone should have put a round through that monster's head while he was busy killing children!

Is your husband living now? I do hope so. I noticed you spoke of him mainly in the past tense. But anyway, congratulations on having such a good, strong man. (intended as reply to 25n56il4).

It is hard to understand how that level of incompetence can exist. Even with no leadership, it seems likely that one of the trained professionals would step forward. It seems more likely that it was pre-planned.

Sad to even say this but in many jurisdictions we might as well take the guns away from the cops because whether they are right or wrong they end up in major trouble from the liberal left democrats and the MSM drags them through the mud. My bet is the highest ranking officer at the scene didn't have the balls to send his guys in out of fear for his and their jobs.

When the real truth about the COVID Massacre comes to light, I fear all hell is going to break loose. The lies, the inconvenience, the fear it caused. I'm glad I don't have to answer for it.

No, it is cowardice. Lack of leadership comes from cowardice. Dirty Harry was sorely needed here, and there should be NO gap in resolve.

One thing my brother and I have concluded in decades is that there is a 99% change that any
Group of people are 100% motivated by sloth and cowardice. Punch any one in the face and the rest will bow. Just decide you can walk more than 2 miles, and you’ll never see another human (=wimp) in a national park.

    It is pathetic!

The only good part is that when a big event comes, we have no question who will be leading and who will be “doing”.

I believe they stood around because they were ordered to by weak sister politicians in charge. (non-apologies to all you feminists out there) think Minneapolis, Portland and Seattle. God forbid anyone get hurt or killed because of their orders. So stand by. We'll call you.

So, one Chief did have his radio because, "it slowed him down" and he did not think he was in charge anyway. The other Chief , well who knows what happened to him. There were "Cowboys" who tried to the right thing, even a Mom who was trying to get her kids. They were forced to stand down, the Mom was even handcuffed. The cops would not let the Border Patrol Tactical Force to do anything until they finally got fed up and went in anyway. I guess the cops did not want to get shot, in another person's words, cowards. Lack of Leadership, cops being handcuffed by politicians, bureaucrats and everyone with a cell phone. I am retired military and we were given a job and to do what we had to finish the objective. Different mindsets and that is why lots of veterans have issues with is going on in our country. If you put veterans in the schools, the kids will be safe because you have given that veteran a duty and he will do what he has to to fulfill that and that is to protect the kids. I am not saying every veteran is that way but plenty are and would do a great job. Now the High School where my Grandson went had plenty of exits but to get in you had go through a gauntlet to get to the Security Desk and then another gauntlet to get to the office or the main hallway but this is Colorado and they learned a hard lesson with Columbine and another one in the mountains before that. I have plenty of thoughts on things that have been said about the Police in the last couple of years but that is another story, the whole Uvalde thing was tragic but those cops have to live with it and I believe we see lots of Officers leaving the force or even possible suicides which would just be another tragedy.
