Time to move on from Boeing

So ANOTHER delay. What is Boeing doing with all this money?

Both Starliner and the Space Launch System (SLS) have been delayed. These projects have been on-going for years now with no results. Meanwhile SpaceX has been launching crews and supplies to the ISS for years.

Maybe it's time we, as a country, cut our losses. Cancel these programs and get Boeing to pay back some money. Then extend the contracts for SpaceX.... at least they proved they can get the job done for a lot cheaper.

    I used to work for Boeing when it was run by the old-school engineers. It was like getting a PhD in aircraft design for me. Maybe I should call them and offer to help fix the valve problem...haha. I've watched them screw up a few things on the Dreamliner. Beautiful aircraft to look at. Not comfortable with it's safety issues... Sad for me...

      My brother worked for Boeing back in the late 50's, early 60s. I have no idea what his position was, but he was one of those "certified geniuses" who I am convinced got all those IQ points by transferring them over from "common sense points." Because he was sure lacking in common sense :-) Anyway I am sure he learned a lot, but he was 14 years older so I don't remember very much.

    "Thirteen stuck valves" is either a lie or a statement of idiocy or misdirection. I opted not to take my A&P's in 1988 as I saw a too regulated future in aviation. And since then have far too much experience in automation controls and devices to buy this "reason". If a group of aircraft maintenance mechanics were the ones holding the strings of the financial stream you'd see different results.

      Government CONTROLS have ruined everything. My fancy truck is having airbags replaced, and waiting for brake control modules. All unnecessary items forced on manufacturers by Government.

        As a manufacturing business owner, working with global 100 manufacturing businesses for 32 years....ClusterF--K! FUBAR!
        I kept my business as far away from regulation as I could get. I was firm when contracting with Bombardier, Cat, Toshiba, G.E. and the like; There shall be no JIT, OSHA, ISO, Six Sigma imposed on my operations. My mind was the tool they needed. These organizations had run into impasse with a process and "found" me through a network of connections...word-of-mouth, as I did no advertising. The only "partner" I had in my business was a hostile; The Gov. Good thing my 50 year experienced accountant hated these organizations as much. SSA has wondered at my destitute financial position for the last decade.....LMAO!

    Boeing is still a thing???

    they made decisions on purpose that compromised safety
    they DID NOT disclose the new software to the pilots

      Yeah, looks like it. Add to that the pilots weren't bright enough to recognize a discrepancy quickly and manually fly the aircraft. Boeing removed the redundancy in the AOA sensors (if I remember correctly) in order to save a few thousand $. They've done other things I can't talk about in my area of structures.

    Boeing has become trapped, like all of the big companies, and government, in an obsession with process management. Process management is built on the fantasy that if you create a good process, things will work perfectly, even when the process is executed by untrained or incompetent people. I can picture it now: the worker saying "Oh, was I supposed to do that for ALL the valves?"

    I think it's time to incentivize Sierra Nevada to step up the Dreamchaser program, and modify it to be launched on a SpaceX booster. I would also push for the crew version of the lifting body vehicle as well.
