I hope all involved escape without injury or worse. With that said, when Katrina hit I remarked it was a memo from Mother Nature saying, "You people are idiots for building a city surrounded on three sides with water, with some parts below sea level, in a hurricane zone." Now Ida.

New Orleans is a wonderful place to visit but I couldn't live there. We were at Ft Polk (mid LA) from 1970-72 and I met a lot of nice people. My youngest son was born at Ft Polk (cost $5.25). My X2 took his Dixie Boys League Baseball team to the Regional finals. We got beat out by the rowdy group from Ville Platt (Bayou Teche country). They wanted us to stay there and let him run for Sheriff of the Parish and I vetoed that idea so we came back to Texas and he went to work for the County Sheriff as a Lt. I asked the incumbent Sheriff in Louisiana, who wanted to retire, how he could predict my husband would win the election and he just gave me a big smile! That's when I decided to leave. Politics in LA have always been very interesting. My husband was born in Louisiana.

I dont listen to the talk about how bad the hurricane i going to be anymore. They claimed it woul be worse than Katrina, which is wasnt. Ida was a cat 4, and katrina was cat 5. The use of adjectives to make it seem more dangereous was infuriating and made me just turn off the news.

News outlets are just trying to get us to watch their commercials by instilling fear. I am DONE with that, and just ignore them now.

Someone on the Weather Channel is drinking balloon juice. She said Katrina was a Cat 3. I check in every now and then for the local radar and favorites where friends and family live, but there's way too much BS to wade through for a few bites of actual news.

A few of them liked us so much they remained here and made their homes in our county. I asked the Houston Director of Health why they liked our county and he said, 'Oh, honey, you people are so damn folksy!' I thought that was great.

I hate to say this N. They will likely mix the collectivist mentality will the folksy charm.

Actually D, I visited a friend in one of our small towns one day. We were in a line at a grocery store and a young man pushed his way in front of my friend. A lady in the line lit into the young man asking him if he'd been raised by an illiterate momma. She told him to get his 'you know what' back where it belonged in line. They were both of the same race. He immediately obliged her! Most of the people who stayed in that town were of the same race and from New Orleans. They are all very happy appearing folks. They bring a cheerful group to that little city. It is now their home. They haven't tried to change it. I grew up there and I visited their school on many occasions. I even taught the girls to twirl a baton and you should hear what they taught me! My daddy forbade me to do it when I was in front of the marching band but he didn't go everywhere our band did! N

Yes, NOLA is below sea level. It is a major sea port and don't forget the off shore rigs supplying you with gas and oil.
What you may not know is that the NOLA motto is "Be Nice or Leave." NOLA is pretty much color blind. We all smile at each other and exchange greetings. Its about the party although Bourbon Street is for tourists not locals. There is much to be learned from the locals on how to get along., Some may disagree but it is pretty much all about celebrating life.

You would think with all the “For your own good and the Public Good” coercive behavior going on, THEY would just force relocate New Orleans. But apparently it’s only acceptable in regards to Bodily Autonomy issues.
