Sigh . . . the U.S. has detained persons as a public health risk for over a century. Before antibiotics were in effect to stop transmissible diseases like tuberculosis, individuals with highly contagious diseases could be forced to stay in quarantine until they either survived or died. When I was a child, I was required to have a smallpox vaccination in order to attend public school.

All of the inane screeching about forced vaccination is nonsense. No one is being forced to take the shots. You can claim health issues (a compromised immune system, for instance), or just refuse to take the shot. If the state tries to reduce the spread of the disease until it achieves herd immunity (as Hawaii is doing) that's a rational health precaution.

I'm reserving judgment. This doesn't sound like something DeSantis would do, given the bills he recently signed ending all lockdowns and mask mandates and banning any requirements for vaccine passports, so at first glance this is a bogus story.

Yes. Many states have this law in place. "You are a danger. So, your rights are eliminated." These laws literally call out law enforcement as the force on this. The version in California was signed by former governor Jerry Brown. I read it as he signed it.
