As one who was drafted and went to Vietnam at the height of the war in 1968, I look at it as an effort marred by a premature military pull-out forced by a legislature no more honest then than the one we have now when we were on the verge of victory. Historians are coming to admit that while it can be claimed correctly that we subsequently lost the hot war and lost south Vietnam to communism, the effort was successful in stopping the spread of communism to the rest of SE Asia by draining capital resources of both China and Russia. As an ER corpsman in a field hospital, I treated and lost many of the names now engraved on the "Wall" in D.C. I sincerely believe that had we not been there a communist takeover of SE Asia would have occurred with an unfathomable loss of life. But they wouldn't have been American lives, what President Trump believes also. Further, after the North and South were reunited and the communist had to govern, in true Asian pragmatism it realized its economy is subject to the same market forces as the rest of the world, and that its historical enemy China was only its friend as long as it was fighting the U.S. Had our government had the same confidence in capitalism and free markets as Donald Trump, I doubt that we would have gone there at all. Similarly, historians are coming to realize that we've made most of the same wrong assumptions in the Mid-East, but are willing to repeat them as long as our American personnel losses are minimized. That way the MIC can keep building munitions while we ignore China entering into trade agreements and using their resources to build infrastructure throughout Africa, Asia and South America.
I missed the draft by the numbers so I consider myself lucky. JB got protected by his family who were connected. He and his party are all mentally deranged the executive orders prove that. His nailing the coffin on the military, women only sports and gender identity ideas.
I would similarly do everything in my power to dodge the draft -- to refrain from fighting yet another war for the banking cartels. Didn't Samuel Clemens change his name to Mark Twain as part of dodging the draft? I think that was part of it, along with a nautical reference in terms of gauging water depth, but I digress.
Me dino who got drafted during 1969 agrees. Got lucky and stayed stateside. It would have hurt my feelings to get my head blown off for nothing. Sad for those who did.
I reported to Fort Wayne and was given an occupational deferment after graduation If they needed me I would have gone in as a captain. In school I was in ROTC. Marched around in wool uniforms in the heat of the sun,. Big fun.
