    Couple observations.
It’s going to be easier to run for Congress than it is to own a firearm.
As long as we are checking mental health background maybe we check the mental health of Congress. But that would be moot. My favorite Mark Twain -let’s say you’re an idiot. Let’s say you’re a member of Congress-but I repeat myself.

Interesting observation. Maybe they have to pass the test to be in Congress. Their version should include a section on the constitution, proctored by Hillsdale Univ.

Greg Travis, a comedian, has a routine where he's portraying a street magician. At one point, he says "This one is for the stupid people. You know who you are. Maybe you DON'T know who you are." Hello, Congress?

There are roughly 100M gun owners, and not all of them conservatives. Most will disregard the law, realizing that enforcement will be impossible. Most law enforcement will ignore or defy orders to enforce it, and those few that do will encounter resistance.

The question is whether or not this proposed law will trigger serious resistance if passed. The more damaging effort is likely to be waiving gun manufacturers' protection against being sued. That alone could destroy the American arms manufacturing industry. As usual with such efforts, it will likely inspire replacement by smuggling and domestic production of "ghost" guns and ammunition.

An alternative is improvements in airgun technology. These unregulated weapons are now capable of taking down big game, with some being credible sniper weapons, much quieter than even suppressed conventional firearms. Quick change compressed air "magazines" and projectile chargers could make these as effective as the feared "assault" weapons Biden seeks to ban.

Yes, I have a couple of airguns, and am thinking of getting another 357 and/or 45/50 caliber. Lewis and Clark did well with one. Why can we have better ones now.

Owning a gun will be impossible for most people. The information on the gun owner will be widely disseminated allowing any agency or representative of an agency to remove weapons for any reason, real or imagined. To infringe means to encroach in any manner no matter how slight. This is complete destruction of the right to protect yourself. It authorizes the infringement of any authority against any citizen. It is time to move, but where?

Here in the People’s Republic of Illinois to own a firearm and buy ammo we must have a FOID. Firearm Owners Identification card. It entails a few bucks and a background check. So before I even think about a purchase my background has been checked. This is administered by Illinois State Police. ISP.
Years ago we law abiding citizens would be angered when it took 4-6 weeks to get the card. It is now running past 7-9 months depending on who you talked to last.
Then we have our Concealed Carry License. CCL. It requires a FOID.
16 hours of classroom. Actual live fire scoring on the range. $200 for the classes, $150 for the actual CCL -wait time right now is 9 months. Again admin by ISP. You can probably read our minds when we jump through all of these hoops just to exercise a right we already have while-the ISP was spending their time enforcing our gov restaurant closures for covid.
One of the main things I learned in the classes was all of the options the government already has to confiscate firearms. Not radicals grousing about the government this or the gov that but actual on the book infringements.
If your girl friend boy friend ex spouse tells the authorities you’re nuts then you’re nuts and the guns go away.
They have the right (HIPPA?) to obtain medical records. If you tell your doc you’ve been feeling blue. Bye bye guns. This is not a crazy guy running from black helicopters. These laws are already there.
Anybody here try to buy any 9mm ammo lately? The most popular caliber in the WORLD!

Yes, this is very much like the people's republic of MA, although they accept various course for the safety training, including the NRA pistol safety class. There is live fire, but your skill is irrelevant.

Same issue with domestic (anything) et al. I was at my FFL who was lock-boxing dozens of firearms for a customer. HE was storing them for the guy who was in some kind of dispute with his significant other. Rather than have his potentially taken, he stored them with the FFL. (phuck you AG).

9mm shows up periodically for ~$0.50/round, here and there. You can buy a couple of boxes occasionally in NH. Target Sports USA has it sometimes, but you MUST sign up for their texts, and immediately (and I really mean immediately) buy when the text shows up. E-mail is too slow, and it will all be gone, every time.

You guys need to move to TX or OK. Although TX is doing all it can, the blue people are flooding Texas as fast as they can drive., so I don't know how long it will last.

OK now has constitutional carry and TX has been reducing the number of requirements for ownership (hubby was a CHL instructor, now can't make a nickel on classes, but he's not sorry!)

And Oh did I mention? Hubby starts his new job in TEXAS on March 8, and I'll be joining him as fast as I can get the freeze/water damage fixed on the house. So, Texas, we're coming home!

I wish. NH has no carry license. Best bet for me, for now.

Right now the only issues for me in MA are the pistols list, 10 round mags, and 94-ban rules (excl pre bans). I have an LTC already. Issued town-by-town. My town is very firearm friendly.

You need a real gulch, Thor. About 25 million of us do. Move us into 1000 square miles of (mostly empty) northern Australia and declare independence.

In what way can freezing cold, overcrowded, overpriced Taxachusetts be more lush than a temperate rain forest? I'l raise you a year-round food growing climate, and mostly empty land mass. Is closer location just convenience used as an excuse to kneel to serfdom? Freedom isn't convenient. (Of course, I do recognize that my 'solution' is less than practical, but your 'solution' requires war, imo. Either is an unlikely dream.)

Mine is Venezuela. We just chose to disagree over which one is bloodier, Venezuela, Australia or maintaining the US free.

Sorry, I had forgotten your Venezuela prospect. Add English speaking to the Aussie option.
I can't imagine why you chose Venezuela. Share your selection criteria?

It is a disaster now, unstable government, third world everything. In my opinion a little effort is all it would take. The people wouldn't fight. Then we can set up a better version of what Friedman tried to help with in Chile.

                      "The people wouldn't fight. "
It's an admittedly biased sample, but my interactions with Venezuelans is that they hate their gov't. A Venezuelan waiter working in Central America told me "I don't know much about politics, but when they say 'socialism' it means 'no jobs'." It was the same with cab drivers. It's amazing how many people working low-level jobs are Venezuelan. I could see a scenario where after years of socialism, they're willing to adopt radical reforms, maybe with a large zona franca with laissez-faire policies.

                      Just for Thoritsu:
Thoritsu: "you have never functioned in the business world. Maybe we’ll try yes/no, but I lack the incentive."
CG: Even if someone created a utopia of liberty you'd still be you, but you wouldn't be able to blame your failures on others. It would lay bare what a joke of a person you are.

Just for you CG. "Man up and unveil your real beliefs. Stop hiding, behind diatribe and obfuscation."

Just throwing rocks is evidence of a lack of self confidence, nothing more. Oh, and before you toss in an out of context quote from months/years ago... lets rather have a real discussion disclosing your real views, or just arm wrestle. My guess is you are game for neither...boy.

Took you a week to come up with that?

Apparently more than tough enough for you mentally. With respect to hiding behind a screen name ... Well punk, you know my name, and location, since you and I have corresponded outside this forum. That was before we figured out you were a trolling socialist in disguise. If you want to press the issue, come on over and I’ll show you how I got my nickname.

Everyone knows this is unConstitutional. But that's a sideline. What this is is just more evidence that the Democrats are intent on destroying the Constitution altogether and re-making this nation into another socialist hellhole. They want to see the nation dragged into civil war while they loot everything. Disgusting that they may just get their wish.

Yeah, I heard about this bill. I understand it's gotten legs, unlike similar efforts in the past. This one may go quite a ways through the system.

It is just a bunch of red tape and a Federal License. The real problem with this (other than it being unconstitutional and hypocritical) is what changes come later.

The Dems already started there assault on the freedoms of of US citizens they just passed HR #5 in the House and expected to pass in the Senate which the Equality Act. Which which severely damage our !st Amendment Rights. HR #165 which is being commented on here the Dems my attempt to attached it to the Covid Omnibus Pork Bill or there is two smaller anti-gun bills that have been introduced on the floor of the HR that could be attached to the Covid Bill that could do considerable damage to the Second Amendment. One is the Safe Gun Act to give grants to independent researchers to produce a electronically controlled firearms. The firearms industry is excluded from those grants. The second is that background checks for new purchases of firearms be held up to 90 days on file instead of 24 hrs then disposed of.
