Our values are expressed in everything we do and in basic activities like sports even the simplest mind can see when we have lost our way. We enjoyed the Olympic games in the past when we believed the athletes were competing to determine who was the best in their sport. We supported American athletes because we believed that there was something better about America and that a country where men were free would allow our athletes to become the best that men could be. We wanted to see this idea on display as a message to the world. We tried to preserve amateurism to keep the focus on the contest and not the rewards. Mary Lou Retton was just a child when she stared at the pummel horse, stuck out her lip and vaulted for a perfect 10. She was extremely happy with that achievement and later seeing her face on a Wheaties box and getting a check from General Mills was just the cherry on top. The Russians pretending their athletes were amateurs was a sham because they were in the army and being paid by the government to promote their sham system. Today everyone is a professional, protecting their assets, focused on the monetary rewards, representing no great ideas, not interested in being the best, just doing what gets them the best contract. Since they have represented nothing and created no value it does not make them happy so they whine and complain. It comes as no surprise that we are bored with this. Now we add in all the symbols of societies other problems, racism, equality of outcome, anti-Americanism, tribal hatred, and other ills from having the inmates running the alyssum and we are watching Netflix or Amazon Prime instead of the garbage on NBC.

5) Our country is in a real crisis and no one does anything to change it, but I'm supposed to care about this garbage?

We live in a world where if you believe the news 94% of all hospitalizations for Covid are now UNVACCINATED people. And they BEMOAN it. They should celebrate it. That means, with ~ 50% vaccination, you've got the problem 94% under control.

But the reality is... That they MUST BE LYING. I am not sure how, or where the fake numbers are coming from. (Because you are not vaccinated unless you have both doses, and it's been at least 2 weeks, and you were never sick after the second vaccination, and you have at least one living relative over 180 yrs old?)

Meanwhile, the majority of people in the hospital with Covid in Israel are vaccinated. Hmm.
Both things should not be true. But I have no trust.

The fact that they demand vaccinations WHILE showing that they are NOT EFFECTIVE at preventing the spread or the death/illness... Tells you what you need to know. PURE CORRUPTION!

Olympics? What's that?

The ratings are down simply because these days the olympics and olympians just flat suck. Just like the nfl, mlb, and nba.

For most of the last century the Olympics has been primarily a tool to pander to Communist countries (particularly the USSR & China) and allow them to demonstrate their 'superior' athletes to the rest of the world. The reason is simple: the Olympic athletes are required to be amateurs. Professional athletes are ruled out. In Communist countries the full-time athletes are in government training programs from an early age, and the governments go to great lengths to pick and train the best and the brightest. They of course keep their 'amateur' status, as they are paid the same as the other proletariat, which somehow doesn't count. Meanwhile, in the West, our best athletes go on to professional team sports where they are paid, and are therefore barred from Olympic competition. Their 'best', for the most part, would not have a chance competing with our professional athletes.

His comments remind me of something. If people of color get agitated and violent that's ok. But, if white folk (not that's the case, but the media coverage...) get uppity, now we've got a problem. This is pretty sad, really. It's racist, actually. Different standards being applied - a double standard, actually. "You people over there can burn down businesses. You people over there better not express any anger publicly." So be it.

We watch every now and then, cheering for the athletes who trained so hard. We do not watch the professional basketball, soccer, etc. games. After the women's soccer team lost, we cheered. They aren't playing as reps for the USA. Same for the overpaid, overly self-important basketball team.

The reason I keep walking away is the ridiculous volume of commercial and point-pieces on athletes families. I want to see the Olympics, not 60 minutes.

The excitement isnt there any more. If they want it to come back they need to make the experience like it was before.

Countries hate each other pretty much, there are no spectators, half the time the athletes are wearing masks, foreign travel is severely restricted, they cost the host countries a LOT for facilities that wont be used again (kind of stupid arrangement). Whats the point..... Watch them on TV if you can figure out which channel they are on (spread out among many networks this time)
