So which is dumber, the Chamberlin Rock or the Woke Students and Administration ? So are they now going to call all rocks protruding from the ground racist also and eliminate them too ?

This appears to be yet another example of the perils of "living on the surface of yourself". As bizarre and offensive as this archaic term for protruding rocks is in present times. It would seem to me that leaving it in place, unspoiled, yet quietly acknowledged, would far better serve present and future observers. Being offended by the past to a point of trying to erase it is a fool's errand, and utterly lacking in any semblance of wisdom, sense and teachable moments.
This monument is no more a monument to bigotry than golf would be to white supremacy.... Why do the "educated" among us believe it is better to erase our unsavory histories rather than learn from them.....Haven't we learned these lessons already?
Caving in to every offended individual only serves to weaken and deny our youth of the larger and more comprehensive story of our past. It is good to know of past injustice...How else to insure it not be repeated?

I thought my grandpa made that word up and was the only one who used it.

Here's a thought. I'm offended by the notion of slavery, honestly. Therefore - how about if we never talk about it again? Ever.

Here is another thought ... socialism, Marxism, fascism, and communism are also forms of slavery - and we need to continue to talk about them. Hiding from the truths does not make them disappear.

So....seeing as I live less than 150 miles away, have extensive contacts in road construction and trucking, and still have a property in Minneapolis; I'll bid on taking up this removal. I shall move this monstrous piece of geologic and sociological attention to Minneapolis.

And have it painted with George Floyd's portrait.......and get my insurance bumped quite a bit.

Lets move "The Chamberlin Rock" to the Gulch - and let it be a reminder to all as to the why we are going Galt.

There is already talk in Wis of blockading Madison and Milwaukee. Of course, I wouldn't be an instigator.
Have you heard of Stop The Wheels? Truckers organizing a passive protest from 11/26 to 11/29.
And tonight I will issue a letter to my two closest Assemblymen, House Rep., and Senator regarding your post. I'll be CC'ing at least 50 of my "neighbors" regarding same. These "students" are debtors, and not my equals, nor equals to my acquaintance. We are stakeholders, property owners and business owners.....major tax contributors and supporters of communities. We are not students with an inequitable claim.

Talk is the key word. I'm not worried about having to fly products out of Truax to avoid rednecks.

I am sure two years from now I won't have shot the hollow points I bought before they got hard to find, and the rednecks will be on about something else. I'll use them for practice to avoid keeping old ammo around.

"We are stakeholders, property owners and business owners.....major tax contributors and supporters of communities. We are not students with an inequitable claim."
The parts of the WI known for software, biotech, insurance, and high-tech mfg will find a way to scrape together the money to move a rock. I honestly would fine if the WI Idea became the Madison-and-Milwaukee Idea. It would save the time and effort of establishing minority rule through gerrymandering.

I actually agree we should be the ones paying to do something symbolic that only affects us. Maybe there should be a state of Yaharaland, Dotyland, or La Follette. On the way to Bayfield, Hayward, or Door County, maybe our hybrid Honda probably isn't much different from the FIBs racing past us in their fancy cars, escaping to WI. I hope it would be more like, Minnesota, where we're not the same state, but you still get reduced rate on tuition.

Just curious... Are all truckers rednecks? Or just those who might be organizing a passive protest?

Haven't you been watching tv and movies for the past 50 years? All Southerners are ignorant, uncouth, foolish, backward, illiterate, often cowardly rednecks. The movies prove it, just like they prove nearly all villains are evil white men, and all smart honest people are female and/or so-called minorities. New Yorkers, on the other hand, are people of color, honest, smart, and courageous.

The latest incidence is The Good Doctor which has killed off the leading white male doctor, made the white male hospital administrator hen-pecked, weak and cancerous. Of the new candidates for 'resident', only one was a white straight male who was portrayed as an arrogant jerk (although apparently was the most competent of all candidates). Those accepted were 2 black females, a gay man - a character named "Woke" who has rejected God but still has Jewish roots, and a man of color who feels life experience is more important than science knowledge.

That is the latest show that I will not watch ever again because of it's irrational, racist, and sexist biases.

The rock is 3 miles from my house. I've ridden by there and gone to events at the Observatory and never noticed the rock. I support moving it if it makes people uncomfortable, but I wonder if it the rock and its history are really the root cause of people's discomfort. Apparently a hundred years ago that racist name was an informal word for any large rock. That's a symptom, not a cause, of the racist caste system that America is trying to undo.

I certainly don't mind moving it if moving it acknowledges racism rather than covering it up. Chancellor Blank supports this, and I respect her opinion on matters related to the campus. My wife has worked with her on some board, and says Blank is as sharp in person as her public persona.

The weirdest thing is I never noticed the rock all the times I road past it. I probably walked right by it.
