I can't help but marvel and all the misinformation regarding vit.D over the years. The media was full-tilt on convincing people that it was a waste of money, maybe even harmful. I've watched that for years and just shook my head. We really are living in an environment of gross misinformation. It's fascinating to watch...like we're in some sort of matrix...

Yes, but the Supreme Court just gave Tulsa and half the state of OK to the native indian tribes.
I wonder if that is justice or politically correct irrational white guilt.
Will the holy leftist liberal Australian government in Canberra give the continent to the aboriginals to assuage their irrational guilt?
No, the only solution is to create a world government because the people can't possibly manage their own lives.
(On vit D, I agree. The value of vitamins and supplements to health has been irrationally understated for decades.)

Yes! Hubby and I are trying to figure out where we live now! In a year that we thought could not POSSIBLY get any crazier, we now discover that - without moving - we no longer live in the US, and we didn't even go to CHOP/CHAZ! I think I'd like to go into hibernation until December 31.

On the original topic, yes on Vitamin D - this isn't even new news :-) I've seen it referenced as a cure/preventative for Covid for months. I have a bit of an issue with Mercola in general. I think he may be a bit too hyperbolic with most of his stuff, but I did enjoy the click-through interview with Dave Asprey, with whom my husband maintains a friendly relationship over the miles. It's really interesting to see how Dave has changed since we interviewed him in our cruise cabin a few years ago. I am not sure I would recognize him any more, he has changed so much!

Heliotherapy has been a keen interest of mine for the last few years. Recently, I started posting on Facebook a small fraction of the scores of articles I have been seeing about the benefits of Vitamin D (some relating it to Covid-19). I have been amazed at the push-back I’ve been getting. Most of my liberal friends are so fixated on the coming “vaccine” as the only solution. The partisanship and close-mindedness going around is astounding.

There have been people pointing out that many second- and third-world nations aren't being hit near as hard by COVID-19 as the developed nations. Normally, this is just exactly the opposite as malaria, tsetse, and others still afflict much of Sub-Saharan Africa. So what would the relevant factor be in reversing the outcomes? This report actually makes a lot of sense now.

It also correlates well to the fluctuations we've been seeing from Winter to Spring to Summer when it comes to infection rates in the hottest States in the Union. In the winter, people tend to stay inside because its cold. Then they start to get out more to enjoy Spring and being outside in the sun will result in higher levels of Vitamin D (as the skin can naturally manufacture the daily amount with only 15 minutes of sunlight). When summer rolls around, however, these places like Arizona and Texas get too hot to stay outside during the day and so people retreat to their air conditioning and their daily exposure to the sun - and consequent vitamin D generation - drop accordingly...

It's kind of funny but so many of the traditional ways to stay healthy and remedies for disease have been not focused on medication near as much as simply living a healthy life: taking a walk in the sun everyday, eating healthily, etc. I often wonder if we've become so overly dependent on taking a pill for everything and all we really need is just 15 minutes a day outside...

I feel that way too, blarman, about supplements and pills. I used to take a bunch, then decided to drop them and see if anything changed. It didn't, but over the years I have picked a few that seem to be more important than others, especially to combat this stupid virus, and a couple that have helped with everyday life.

As I told my husband yesterday, I think people like us who almost never go out to eat and certainly NEVER eat fast food, do have a leg up on some people who have paid little if any attention to nutrition. At least one can hope!

It is essential. The body gets very little from food. It is generated in skin by sunlight so in winter / cloudy dark weather take a supplement, cheap.
If a 'non-reflective' person (we say here) take up to double. Do not take a bottle a day but there is a big safety margin.

We see a lot of Vitamin D deficiency here in sunny Colorado. Most of my patients are over 65, and most are Vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D is more like a hormone than a vitamin, and has multiple beneficial effects, including helping the immune system fight viral infections. A level of 30 is not adequate, should be over 60.

Adding more proof to the vit d link. I have been telling my patients and their families to supplement to correct low levels for months now
