I always thought, in my youth, that insurance was legalized gambling against yourself. You gamble that you're going to have a high expense at some point, and the insurer gambles that you won't for a long time. it has nothing to do with other people or the collective.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd support legislation mandating health insurance be regarded and treated in this way.
I'm an individual, not a statistic.
