I promised updates on the real origin of the coronavirus situation when I heard more info. I sent this out to my students in my nanotechnology class on Friday night right after hearing about it.

    ----------------------

    Dear Students,

On a previous night, we discussed how Charles Lieber, now formerly Harvard's Chemistry Department Head, was well known for his pioneering work on nanowire detection of viruses before being arrested at the beginning of 2020.

The link below is not all that well-sourced, but it is the most complete information I have seen on the original source of the COVID-19 virus. This is likely to be part of a question for the end-of-semester ethics exercise due on 4/27.

    Best regards,

    Dr. Jim Brenner

Yes. I have seen the same on other sources.
There is an international legal commission (?) that wants to sue the gov of China for global damage. The case is not based on intent (possible but very unlikely) but irresponsibility, and suppression of news.

Jim, you should post those links to separate topics in the Gulch for all to see.

        Department of Justice
        Office of Public Affairs

        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
        Tuesday, January 28, 2020

Harvard University Professor and Two Chinese Nationals Charged in Three Separate China Related Cases

The Department of Justice announced today that the Chair of Harvard University’s Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department and two Chinese nationals have been charged in connection with aiding the People’s Republic of China.

Dr. Charles Lieber, 60, Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University, was arrested this morning and charged by criminal complaint with one count of making a materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement. Lieber will appear this afternoon before Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler in federal court in Boston, Massachusetts.

Yanqing Ye, 29, a Chinese national, was charged in an indictment today with one count each of visa fraud, making false statements, acting as an agent of a foreign government and conspiracy. Ye is currently in China.

Zaosong Zheng, 30, a Chinese national, was arrested on Dec. 10, 2019, at Boston’s Logan International Airport and charged by criminal complaint with attempting to smuggle 21 vials of biological research to China. On Jan. 21, 2020, Zheng was indicted on one count of smuggling goods from the United States and one count of making false, fictitious or fraudulent statements. He has been detained since Dec. 30, 2019.

        Dr. Charles Lieber

According to court documents, since 2008, Dr. Lieber who has served as the Principal Investigator of the Lieber Research Group at Harvard University, which specialized in the area of nanoscience, has received more than $15,000,000 in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Department of Defense (DOD). These grants require the disclosure of significant foreign financial conflicts of interest, including financial support from foreign governments or foreign entities. Unbeknownst to Harvard University beginning in 2011, Lieber became a “Strategic Scientist” at Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) in China and was a contractual participant in China’s Thousand Talents Plan from in or about 2012 to 2017. China’s Thousand Talents Plan is one of the most prominent Chinese Talent recruit plans that are designed to attract, recruit, and cultivate high-level scientific talent in furtherance of China’s scientific development, economic prosperity and national security. These talent programs seek to lure Chinese overseas talent and foreign experts to bring their knowledge and experience to China and reward individuals for stealing proprietary information. Under the terms of Lieber’s three-year Thousand Talents contract, WUT paid Lieber $50,000 USD per month, living expenses of up to 1,000,000 Chinese Yuan (approximately $158,000 USD at the time) and awarded him more than $1.5 million to establish a research lab at WUT. In return, Lieber was obligated to work for WUT “not less than nine months a year” by “declaring international cooperation projects, cultivating young teachers and Ph.D. students, organizing international conference[s], applying for patents and publishing articles in the name of” WUT.

The complaint alleges that in 2018 and 2019, Lieber lied about his involvement in the Thousand Talents Plan and affiliation with WUT. On or about, April 24, 2018, during an interview with investigators, Lieber stated that he was never asked to participate in the Thousand Talents Program, but he “wasn’t sure” how China categorized him. In November 2018, NIH inquired of Harvard whether Lieber had failed to disclose his then-suspected relationship with WUT and China’s Thousand Talents Plan. Lieber caused Harvard to falsely tell NIH that Lieber “had no formal association with WUT” after 2012, that “WUT continued to falsely exaggerate” his involvement with WUT in subsequent years, and that Lieber “is not and has never been a participant in” China’s Thousand Talents Plan.

I really don't know or care to know anything about the wet markets in China. They can do as they do. We should never have been letting them manufacturer our products and that is all caused by US government. If our taxes and policies stayed in check, we would have continued to produce in America.
But I see this wet market thing as a distraction much like the video that caused Benghazi.

I couldn't agree more, but socialists want to hug China. This can be a reason to give to those who prefer to adopt Chinese politics in the US, to shun supporting the Chinese economy.

I think the major reason for transferring manufacturing to china was to get cheaper prices paid for by our government printing money to pay for the stuff. The net result was to HIDE THE INFLATION that wwe should have seen as a result ofhow much deficit spending was going on here. Now to bring back manufacturing will spark a BIG wave of price inflation to match the monetary inflation that was already completed by the aforementioned presidents.

When I was a kid who loved to cane pole fish for bream at a lake, a local redneck showed me dino how to get bait by showing me what an earthworm mound looked like, how to drive a short stake in the ground and rub its top with another to poduce a vibrating sound. Earthworms came squiriming out of the ground like crazy.
Why did I wrtie the above? It's all about how to get free live earthwoms to finger food serve in bowls to the likes of the Clinton, Bush and Hussein Crime Cartel and all the Deep State career politicians who got rich shipping jobs and the bulk of whole industries over to China.

Why would communist China shut down those markets? They keep the inmates fed enough to deter a revolution and they provide a ready made "get out of jail" card for any of the lab next door social control/extermination experiments that might manage to get out the vent stack. The bigger question is will we learn the lessons in front of us, namely, China can easily be taken down economically, as was the USSR - and the biggie, U.S. media conglomerates can be defunded by simply not going to Disney, or subscribing to ESPN, etc., advertising dollars drying up have been proven to throttle their ability to attack Constitutional rule of law. The next question is, do we have the will to follow through?

I don't trust Dr. Fauci and haven't for this entire millennium. I think he's a bully.

Nowadays, news reporters and authoritative news sources have an implicit bargain: the reporters say what the sources tell them to say, and the sources give reporters access so that the reporters can keep their jobs.

Fauci demonstrated his abuse of that bargain in The AAAS Observer, Sept 1 1989, page 4, saying,
"Journalists who make too many mistakes, or who are sloppy, are going to find that their access to scientists may diminish."

The reason they allow them to continue is that this is a source of food for the rabble there....who my riot and cause problems if they get too hungry. In spite of their protestations to the contrary...the commie government cannot provide for the needs of the proletariat....free enterprise...in the form of this wet market....is providing much needed sustenance to the masses.

Is a boycott of China possible? Do we Americans have the cojones to put up with the shortages until alternate manufacturing sites could be put up and running?

What I don't understand why the DC Swamp, the Fake Media, major universities, major corporations and our elected representatives turn a blind towards the insidious web of Chinese associated Communist party students and researchers stealing our technology for world domination. Here I disagree with the Pres in regards to the Chinese govt. All those visiting Chineses nationals should be deported and our manufacturing brought back into this hemisphere. I'm sure the Chinese Communist Party is cheering that they have damaged our country. The Pres should join with other nations to seek reciprocity from China and cease all trade with them and send them back to the third world status where they belong.
