As a 38 year old Norwegian named Liam recently posted to galtsgulchonline: “To do business of any kind you need to register with the state and pay a license fee. And there are a lot of regulations. Still they claim that we have a free non-socialistic economy. Well, it is practically regulated into a monopoly for a chosen few. The government of Norway are today on the right officially, but still they play into the hands of the EU. It is still a monster in between. You can see more on how this works at The Capitalist Party of Norway. We do work hard to get into the Norwegian parliament to stir it up a bit. I see a lot of similarities in the Norwegian economy to what happened in Atlas Shrugged.”

    Quite so. some quotes-

The rise in living standards was made possible when cultures based on social cohesion, high levels of trust and strong work ethics were combined with free markets and low taxes.

The welfare state attracted new clients

[USA, 1967] 95 percent of .. men between the ages of 25 and 54 worked. Today however, more than 15 percent of such men aren’t working.

To do business of any kind you need to register with the state and pay a license fee. And there are a lot of regulations.

    Some conclusions from me-
For high standards of living a nation requires a common culture of social cohesion, trust, etc.
So immigration can be good but must be controlled.
However good your economy there will be pockets of bad stuff, misery and disadvantage. How these are dealt with is crucial, If governments start big programs with taxes and borrowings it will 'kill the goose that laid the golden egg'.

What the leftists dont consider is the effect of a person's spirit and enthusiasm on what he can accomplish. Trump has done more in this regard than he is getting credit for. Its not Trump who boosts the economy- its the effect he has on people that boosts the economy. Go to one of his rally events and you can just feel what I am talking about.

Not only the effect on their spirit, but its the denial of their spirit, of their natural ability for reason, of their right to self-creation.

Exactly. I really enjoy going to Trump rally events. I know that Trump is not 100% intellectually consistent (repeal and replace obamacare- instead of simply repealing it and getting government OUT of it)

He gives people hope in our individual future.

There seemingly is a natural tendency towards collectivism in human nature- regardless of the actual outcome.

Its like people dont care about the results of collectivism, but just that it is in place. Very strange indeed.

People seem to be more like vicious animals that simply live by taking whatever they need/want- and collectivism is best suited for this free-for-all societal structure.

Its even worse among conservatives who claim to advocate for personal liberty and markets. Their initial knee-jerk reaction is always "it sounds great, but . . . ."

it seems that consistency is lacking in a lot of conservatives. I remember the libertarian candidate last election- marijuana should be legalized, but stronger drugs should be illegal. Makes no logical sense. If you want to take a drug, more power to you. Its your body, no matter what the drug is.

"The astrological mysticism aside, the 1960s was defining itself in the western world as the Age of Love, and this was illustrated brilliantly in Ayn Rand’s prophetic 1957 novel, Atlas Shrugged. Essentially, it was the transfer of compassion and benevolence from the individual and privately funded charities to the progressive administrative state. Virtue was nationalized, personal responsibility was sacrificed."

Yes, not only can immigration be good, it is a right. Economist Julian Simon proved in his book The Ultimate Resource, that more human minds solve more human problems. Regardless, Objectivism holds that anyone who respects the rights of others is free to move according to their judgment. The social cohesion of trust does not require traditional, ethnic bonds. America is proof. The only unity required a principled system of values rooted in objective law.
