Most times, the most obvious answer is the correct one. In this case, I believe it was Iran. Their pattern of terror over the years resulting in thousands (more?) of maimed and killed American soldiers is documented.
It's a bit off-topic, but it came up recently in a conversation I was having with a friend. Does anyone know if the first sentence above has a name? ... like ***'s Law?
Never trust the Government....I understand that the oil must flow and that this will affect the price of oil worldwide. But why is this our problem? We have the ability to be self-sufficient. If they want to kill each other let them.
There are some who claim it was the Houthis. US Intelligence denies this, saying the Houthis don't have the tech or resources.
Personally, I think the US ought to let the Saudis take the first step. It was their lands and economy which was attacked. They are the leader of the Islamic nations - especially with Mecca and Medina both in Saudi lands. Iran is challenging that leadership. It is up to the Saudis to respond. If the US chooses to throw its weight with Saudi Arabia, that's okay by me, but it shouldn't be up to the US to defend the Saudis. And I think we ought to hire our services out - charge the Saudis for our military.
By now President Dino Ulysses Allosaurus Esquire III would be thinking about blowing up all their war toys and sinking all their ships without putting any boots on the ground. I'd leave the oil fields alone. I've read elections are rigged and there are a lot of Iranians frustrated over how their rulers keep a boot on their necks. Should they rise up, they will need something to help give them a start. If they don't, it strikes me the dino that blowing up their rulers would be a viable next step. Bwahaha!
Shortly after me dino made the above post, I took a shower where it seems I do my best thinking. In fact, I was thoughtfully scratching my scalp (with shampoo) when it occurred to me that maybe I as president should blow up the rulers along with everything else named BEFORE the oppressed can even think of rising up. It's that old saying about cutting the head off of the snake.
Iranian extremist Islamic Mullahs are to blame. They are so bent on destroying Isreal, Saudia Arabia, and the US. They believe if they bring about armageddon their prophesied savor will destroy their enemies.
I was in Tehran during their last revolution. I worked for a computer company that provided the systems to the gov't. I remember a few specific folks in the computer room that would glare at me with obvious hatred.I remember the anti gov't demonstrations. I wonder if the "people" of Iran have the stomach for another revolution that would be required to eliminate the current islamist regime. I believe Iran was behind the latest attack. But the revolutionary guard helped the houtis (sp?) do it.
It is a form of Occam's razor. The most obvious answer is the correct one quote Occam's razor is more commonly described as 'the simplest answer is most often correct,' although this is an oversimplification. The 'correct' interpretation is that entities should not be multiplied needlessly. Occam's Razor - The Simplest Answer is Usually Correct - Explorable

Oh, I think if a couple former POTUS were not involved, Trump would have released the selaled results. We have yet to hear the truth about how Hillary's brain damage was caused when her plane went off a runway in Iran, and what was she up to? We have yet to officailly hear the truth about Benghazi, or how Hill and O were shipping former Gadaffi gold and arms ti ISIS,arcross the area, and could not risk exposure by sending help.

If we get involved it should be a massive stri to eliminate the ability of Iran to wage war-period
