It was facts against feelings. A defense against an overwhelming amount of illogical, backwards and emotional arguments from big time lawyers. The judge was very objective, this time:
Judge:
“So, again, the — here’s the problem I'm having with what you're saying, Ms. Wells. You're saying, oh, it's the big picture. It's all the pieces together. And it seems like every piece that you point to is a piece that hurts your argument rather than helping it.”
After the judge decides the verdict without the jury:
“If I’ve gotten this wrong, and the Fourth Circuit says that this is not what the law is, I hesitate to think where the First Amendment is going in this country.”

Teter was an activist. It was a clear case of provocation that the left has been using more extensively in desperation.
