What music do you listen to?

I've been wondering what different genres everyone listens on here... I ended up going to a Tool concert and a symphony last weekend so music is all that's been on my mind lately!

Also, is it true Ayn Rand's favorite composer was Rachmaninoff?

I mostly listen to Rock (Pop, Metal [not death metal], Punk, 80's onward, etc.), but I also wind up listening to Classic Rock, Blues, some Jazz and Classical (especially Ludwig Von's 9th on occasion). Even the occasional movie soundtrack (i.e. Star Wars, LotR) is fun at times. Of course my fiancee has introduced me to Tejano, which is rather similar sounding to Polka, and both of those can be rather up-beat on occasion.

I don't listen to much classical music, except on rare occasion when I'm reading papers and I want music just below the threshold of distracting me. I usually listen to pop music, esp if it has Ayn Rand-like themes. I also like mezcla pop, which switches between English and Spanish, which are my two languages. It is crass, sometimes angry, often misogynistic, but it's good to exercise to. It's really interesting how the ribald lyrics in my second language, Spanish, feel like they go to one part of my brain, but when they're in English they grate on me on a different level. Intellectually they're the same, but I'm a native speaker of English so foul language in English affects me more.
