The story of humanity over the course of the last two centuries is nothing short of remarkable. As late as 1870, life expectancy in Europe and the world was 36 and 30 years, respectively. Today, it is 81 and 72 years, respectively. In 1820, 90 percent of humanity lived in extreme poverty. Today, less than 10 percent does. In 1800, 88 percent of the world’s population was illiterate. Today, 13 percent of the world’s population is illiterate. In 1800, 43 percent of children died before their fifth birthday. Today, less than 4 percent do. In 1816, 0.87 percent of the world’s population lived in a democracy. In 2015, 56 percent did. In 1800, food supply per person per day in France, which was one of the most advanced countries in the world, was a mere 1,846 calories. In 2013, food supply per person per day in Africa, the world’s poorest continent, amounted to 2,624 calories. Slavery, which was rampant in most parts of the world in 1800, is now illegal in every country. Finally, for the first time since the start of industrialization in the mid-18th century, global inequality is declining as developing countries catch up with the developed world.

The world is not a perfect place and never will be. As long as there are people who go hungry or die from preventable diseases, there will always be room for improvement. Everyone has a role to play in helping those in need. Genuine help, however, should start with a clear understanding of what works and what does not. Free societies characterized by the rule of law, property rights, domestic competition and free trade have a much better record of tackling human misery than their socialist alternatives. The young followers of Corbyn and Ocasio-Cortez should, therefore, keep the Hippocratic Oath in mind: If you want to help, first do no harm.

My vision of Ms. Cortez is a two year old throwing a tantrum! When my six year old great child acted like Ms. Cortez, I asked her as she kicked and screamed on the floor, 'Does this work for you at home?' No more tantrums!

My solution to the question of Cortez, Warren, Sanders, and Omar is we ignore their idiocy. Less publicity. Make a clear statement we don't think they are playing with a full deck!

Ignoring their "stupidity" doesn't work. The Media love that stuff. Ignoring it gives her and her ilk free rein to say what they want any time they want without serious opposition. If they say something dumb they should be called on it at all times by all people not just the President and cabinet level people but all people. Not saying something could lead to not having the right to say something.

These Social Democrats truly believe that they are morally superior. They also believe that anything they do in their crusades is moral. They also believe that anyone that tries to stop them is immoral. History has seen these kind of people before.

Yes, the death rates of children is why the average age was so low. every 5 year old paired with a 65 year old netted a 35 year old average.

We have plenty of evidence that many cultures had people living into old age (50s and 60s).

The challenge was that water was not safe, and a small accident (in todays terms) could easily prove lethal. Gangrene being one of them.

    We've come a long way.

But we have also forced our output on countries not ready for them, and we must be careful, like you stated: Above all, do no harm.

We need the Prime Directive in place when dealing with lesser cultures. We have to be careful here.

The moat and the beam. The best approach is to allow "good" to develop passively wherever it will and to restrain injury when it may impact the passive gain of good.

The media is once again guilty of their left-wing agenda by giving any credence to Cortez. She should be ignored by them and everyone else and laughed out of DC. As for her district, they should not receive any federal funds.

Leftists want only power. They could care about other people only to the extent that they can exert power over OTHER oppressor people to help the oppressed.

Leftists want to be the top oppressor.

This is the best globalism offers. In and of itself, it provides the opportunity to make the lives of humanity greater through liberty: voluntary exchange rather than forced diversity.
