wow.. A few years back I seriously thought through the idea of putting this kind of app together. Things like crime stats or sexual predators are easy to access public info. The idea I had back then was to marry those to google maps and let you know if you were in a crappy neighborhood.. I was thinking at the time that a slider could be used to set your personal threshold on how crappy of an area you would be worried about. At that time I decided to pass on it, pretty much for exactly the things that are happening to the devs now. I was pretty sure that the attacks would be personal... Also, since at that time I was living in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood, and right next to a really bad one... I figured that not going for it would be the safer choice...
