When kids ask I suggest they go into something they love that people will pay for. The top people in every job do well. They're more likely to be above average at something they love.
Good point. Ever try your hand at something, succeeded but found you didn't enjoy it all that much. That to me always seemed to be how people got to be what Ayn Rand called "second raters".
I keep pressing this issue with my wife but she wont have it. HER son is going to college for 4 years otherwise he could never be "successful". Ive said for several years now that the trades are where its at. HVAC and welding especially. Even the locksmith I hired to rework our office access control is booked solid for the next month, and we are paying him a lot for one day of labor.
My kids are 6 and 4, but I told my wife I don't want them to go unless it's with a specific purpose, specific knowledge they want to acquire that the school has a good track record on. I don't want them to go just b/c that's the next step after high school.
