A Silver Lining, by Robert Gore at Straight Line Logic

Logic is man’s tool to grasp and deal with reality. Reality and consequences can be delayed, never prevented. Consequences in a world that believes devoutly in governments and central banks, warfare and welfare, phony money and debt, patently false political homilies, and transcendent “feelings” are severe. However, they will affirm the convictions of that remnant who tenaciously adhere to reason and rationality. That has to count as the silver lining to this dark and intellectually beclouded epoch.

In the middle of this article is some information relating to Kavanaugh's past legal work. What should have been relevant information to evaluate him by - yet I never heard it mentioned during the proceedings.

Judge Napolitano made a point to make those issues public and few considered the facts of Kav's decisions to be important to the process. It's not about facts; it's all about political rubbish to distract the people from noticing another link being forged for their chains. Kavanaugh was a bad choice for the court. He does not respect the constitution. If Republicans cared about the Constitution this was another opportunity to prove it. As usual the statist GOP is no better than the statist Dems.

Yes, the politicians in the US Senate are statist scum deserving of punishment for treason.
But before that can occur, someone with courage must oppose force with force. Reason is not practiced by the majority and as a result rational arguments fall on deaf ears.

    What a lame silver lining!
    j/k.
I love the article and agree completely. I do wish for a better silver lining.

As I read I kept wondering if it's really true that few see the logical contradictions. It seems like it. But people are more educated than ever. I wonder if people feel more confident than ever that there is no danger of losing rule of law, so it's fine to allow legal processes to become a circus.

"If Kavanaugh’s opposition had resorted to logic,"
My thought is it really wasn't opposition to the nomination but rather an attempt to goad President Trump and allies into saying something stupid. Every time I say this, people assure me they know the Democrats' true motive. Maybe they do. I don't care what their motive is. The problem is the lack of logic about something serious, which you describe in the article.

The true test of a philosophy is how accurately it is based on reality. Reality rules, period. Sometimes it can be denied temporarily, but it always wins in the end.

Reality cannot be delayed, though. All that exists is real and cannot go out of being real and still exist. So to delay it is just a pretense of some thing going out of existence. Everything that a human or other animal does is part of reality and cannot be otherwise, even for an extremely short time.

I suppose what I have seen are delays in the consequences of ignoring reality. U can ignore insufficient lubrication in your car engine for awhile, but eventually the engine will seize up.
Print money now to keep an economic expanision going longer than it should, but later it will crash anyway, and probably worse.

Correct you are, he was not a good choice... but I think, the charade of the left was allowed, only to cement, in the voters experience, the absolute lunacy of the left; the lack of seriousness of the left and no matter how the FBI report came down...it wouldn't be enough. BK had to be guilty because he threatens their power, Trump threatens their power and the Facts threaten their power.

    Thanks Robert...another good read.

Reality can neither be "delayed" nor "prevented."

"Reality is that which exists. The unreal does not exist. The unreal is merely that negation of existence which is the content of a human consciousness when it attempts to abandon reality." -Ayn Rand (emphasis added)

I should not have said "reality and consequences" can be delayed, only consequences. Thanks for catching that.

It was a very good article that I enjoyed reading very much. I've got my back up due to a concerted attack against me driven by a clear and present double-standard motivated by the ASoc skeptics that run this site.

I'm glad you enjoyed the article. The only attacks anyone on this site should have to bear are attacks on their ideas and reasoning. This should be an open forum for the interplay and clash of ideas and reasoning leading its members closer to ultimate truth.

Just remember that Skepticism as philosophy is not the same as being skeptical. If your ASoc means antisocial, then you are really far from the truth. I have had extreme social anxiety all my life but am not antisocial. Even hermits are somewhat social. Only the dead or those without consciousness are not social.

            ASoc: Atlas Society ("social-metaphysicians").

What I'm for is "pragmatism" without skepticism (or "skeptics" of anything but reason).

"You who prattle that morality is social and that man would need no morality on a desert island -- it is on a desert island that he would need it most. Let him try to claim, when there are no victims to pay for it, that a rock is a house, that sand is clothing, that food will drop into his mouth without cause or effort, that he will collect a harvest tomorrow by devouring his stock seed today -- and reality will wipe him out, as he deserves; reality will show him that life is a value to be bought, and that thinking is the only coin noble enough to buy it." -Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged, p. 1018

Why wasn't any of the information on Kavanaugh you stated in your essay ever brought up at the hearing instead of that stupid spectacle put on by the Dimms? Nothing this Congressional Committee made any sense. I Rep's are just as much swamp creatures as the Dimms. I wish there was a bonified third party that would have the members that would give the public the correct info.
