An interesting conversation about the pervasiveness of postmodernism.

Intel-lectual...most probably, seeing it just means compartmentalized information...however I am more likely to call it: Anti-lectual: meaning compartmentalized bull crap.

    [from OUC's dictionary]

“Postmodernism has invaded economics, philosophy, culture, art, psychology, medicine, climate science, journalism, politics, physics … the list is endless.”

And still the vast majority of people are oblivious about this cancer.

I clearly understand how post-modernism seems to be gaining sway. I clearly understand how Marxism offers facile answers to human problems. I don’t see the relationship between them beyond their both being wrongheaded.

I do not like calling post-modernism and attack on “Western Civilization”. The Enlightenment started in the West, but it’s not Western. Calling it that opens the door to straw men: “Western medicine has its merits, but just because the West came to dominate the world, we shouldn’t discount other alternative forms of medicine.” That’s nonsense. It’s not about it being Western. It’s about it being scientific. In my language, it’s just civilization.

I liked this interview, and I’m glad the interviewer didn’t find away to bring up a terrorist manifesto in a positive way.

Thanks, we can't attribute all things scientific as western, but you don't think postmodernism is an attack on the rational mind and individualism which were crystallized by "western civilization?"

        There are two claims:
1: The rational mind and individualism were crystallized by Western civilization
CG: Yes. My point was reason should not be construed as a cultural custom. It works everywhere.
2: Postmodernism is an attack on the rational mind and individualism
CG: Yes. It seemed to be a more direct attack in the 90s. Now the name seems to be discredited, but the idea of facts being just an extension of opinion is stronger now than then.

Yes, Rand had a sour taste in her mouth about so-called western intellectuals. But that's what they're called if their audience is significant enough.

There are intellectuals and there are pseudo-intellectuals.
Me dino actually recalls Mad Magazine calling Hugh Hefner (who wrote the Playboy Philosophy) the latter when I was around age 16 way back during the 60s.
