The site reminds of Rand's comments about choosing your personal philosophy deliberately, with reason, or have it chosen for you haphazardly by the random ideas the popular culture is pushing. The set of ideas here is for someone who needs to retool themselves after a disastrous experience with the latter, or a young child. I don't think anyone who has taken the time to study enlightenment intellectuals or free market economists can learn anything.

      Thank you for the response.

One key part of the Rothbard paragraph that you quoted was, "intellectuals . . . in order to teach those who are blinded by ignorance and emotions. They must learn in order to acquire the ability to enlighten the misguided many."

The site and book are more about intellectuals having the tools to be able to communicate with those misguided or ignorant. The book associated with the site offers a means to do just that. "Go read Atlas Shrugged" wont work. Certainly not as a first nor even second step.

You also quote Rothbard as, "If we want to avoid the destruction of Western civilization and the relapse into primitive wretchedness, we must change the mentality of our fellow citizens."

If you or I are to change the mentality of anyone, the first step is to get a person going in the proper direction. The core part of the book asks, "What is Good?". Then provides a simplistic chart to show 4 basic possibilities. This can be used to respectfully communicate with those that are not enlightened.

So, it is not intended to teach you or anyone like you further insights into what you already know. Rather, it is to remind you of what you have long since forgotten, so you can be of service in Rothbard's stated goal of changing mentality.

Why do you say "not even you?" Where does that come from? Why is LOOK in caps? Why do you ask "Why not?" It looks like there are some identical themes to this post. Liberty, free markets, serving the needs of others, doing good. What's the point?

I'm not sure if your read the paragraph I posted. It was set up by Jeff Deist. It was a quote from Murray Rothbard about Ludwig von Mises. I thought it was relevant here because it is reminiscent of Ayn Rand's Philosophy, Who Needs It.

I did read the paragraph. I am a fan of Mises and associated writers. The website I mentioned even has "The Constitution of Liberty" by Hayek on a very short list of recommended educational reading.

My initial response post was much to curt and didn't communicate what I intended. My apologies. One too many beers out with my friends perhaps. Fun times. :)

Thanks for the invitation, and I did go to the site, and quickly took a look to try to get a sense of it, and happy to spend more time, look more closely, and see what the value proposition is. Happy to get back to you and discuss further.

So Mr. mshupe. You post the following:
"They must learn in order to acquire the ability to enlighten the misguided many."
That is, the type of people here in Gult's Gultch should be devoted to open minded "learn in order to . . "

Yet, not even you will go LOOK at:
    BreatheFreePrinciples.org

    Why not?
