If that's a simple answer, I'd hate to try to read a complex one.
All people who work with their minds use obtuse and complexities when simpler words will suffice.Dr. Zarkov got it right, a few posts down from the top. And he is dead on right about politicians. What complexity of language does is prove back doors of confusion that allows politicians to escape through when a smart guy cuts too close to the bone.

Logic and reason will see you through. When I worked on the school strategic plan team, I found a lot of ed jargon and little big picture approach. They were always bogged down in details, but could never seem to translate it to the whole. Telling the kids parents bad, they did not see soon translated to all adults bad - including teachers. Feelin math is not the same as knowing math. Teaching fem. lit. and gay lit, did not leave kids with the works of the philosophers and great writers of old. Politicians are like that too, never the, what is the end result question. You look at their plans, and you almost instantly see they are absurd.

What I find amazing is how some people engage in painful, tortuous slogging through a problem without a thought to the major principles involved. The human mind is a whiz at pattern-matching, but few people understand that sometimes the best approach is to look at the situation and ask yourself if everything looks right.

Pattern matching is a skill dating back to our hunter gatherer days, when a subtle shift in a shadow meant a game animal was hiding in the brush, or enabling us to pick out the edible vegetation from surrounding inedible plants. When we focus on the entire picture instead of obsessing over one element of any problem, it can be revealing how quickly the dysfunctional element jumps out at us.

Politicians don't want the people to take a holistic view, because the absurdities of some of their statements jump out as a flaw in the whole. It's easier for them to drive home a single element and hope the disconnects aren't obvious. It's easy for them to talk about how wonderful all the "free" stuff we'll get will be if we elect them. What they fear is the person who asks how they intend to pay for it.

Dr. Zarkov - Love the Flash Gordon reference, and thanks for adding the obsession vs pattern matching comparison. It has come up more than once in the conversations I've heard and read about the outrage mongers and their lack of understanding or even desire for it.

Yes, and to us so obvious. It explains their wanto ignorance of complex systems. Jordan Peterson has done a great job bringing this to light.
