What Can This Site Accomplish?
Posted by Korben_Rage 6 years, 5 months ago to Going Galt
I'm new here, and I guess I made a splash by kinda shit testing you all. You responded quite well I'd like to explore more.
So the next question becomes what can we accomplish? I know I'm new, maybe great things have been done that I don't know about. But most of what I see is a small echo chamber. A small group of people with similar beliefs talking about the same stuff everyone else is. That's great, I enjoy that to, but then what?
How can what we do here actually improve each others lives? I see a few businesses advertised, ok we support friendly businesses but that must not be going well as I only see a couple dozen. I see a tool to contact others in my area, but it's only for producers and maybe I'll do that. However looking at it closely there's very few near me who are active. I could go for some commerce with other gulchers but there isn't much local so it isn't worth $20/mo.
So, what would you like to actually do? How can I help short of blindly throwing money at the site?

This is the first thing you've posted here in 16 months, and that's what you post.
In those prior posts you wrote.
"Seems like someone can't stand to hear differing opinions based on reason." You of course had directed it at another, but it certainly fits here.
Also gems like; "Keep on flaming", "more veiled insults don't help" "Even a brainwashed dimwit has a right to protest" and repeating "Strawman" over and over again..
Kinda sounds more like " take your sophomoric, time wasting and irrational commentary with you" isn't really pointed at me.
So I looked and freedomforall who took a similar distaste in the other thread and libertylad share a key attribute. They are both exactly the same distance from me, the only two. What are the odds of that, exactly 2200 miles. This site is oddly precise on those distances. Not 2199 like another member or 2208 like another but both exactly 2200.
You also write similarly compare "Get you to go away, take your sophomoric, time wasting and irrational commentary with you, and never darken our doors again." With this from freedomforall "You could ride your bike anywhere without a helmet and without an adult guard, and somehow miraculously we learned from the experience and flourished." The run on sentence with the overuse of "and" while ranting.
Regarding sentence formation , I also can ramble on and on in my rants. It's telling that you accuse
The most prodigious participant on this forum of trolling you.
If you also show them as at the same distance then that would say something, either evidence I'm right or prove me wrong. Being the same distance from me only puts them anywhere in a circumference. But if it's the same for you then they could only be bare minimum close neighbors.
Nothing on the actual topic?
We had one in the WH for 8 years.
That was more than enough.
I see you are in WA, a state which is trying hard to be more to the left of CA. Stay there and try to reform the populace of that state.
Are you trying to say I am? Well yes, I'm my own messiah, so was John Galt.
"We had one in the WH for 8 years."
And we have one now, that's the nature of the presidency.
"I see you are in WA, a state which is trying hard to be more to the left of CA. Stay there and try to reform the populace of that state."
Well ok but only because you said so.
So then are you saying this site is useless? Are you useless?
Cause you should be to, and that should make us allies.
Are these trick questions or do you actually not know this?
I'm not a perfect fit here, but I love the objective logic used or at least sought by most Gulchers.
I've learned a lot here too.
By the way, I came in here happy.
As for you coming in here angry, I can only think you're trolling.
What made you think we could possibly be allies?
Of course, I've been called many names many times, those who challenge others often do. Do you think it bothers me?
"Me dino gets the impression you've been spreading your spite elsewhere."
WTF is "me dino" are you a child, do you want to be treated as a child? As for spite, no I attempt to force the spread of reason. That you see that as spite, well that says a lot about you. You and libertylad are the only ones in this thread to show spite. The only ones working to minimize discussion through accusation and insult. Maybe you should ask yourself why that is?
"What made you think we could possibly be allies?"
The subject matter of this forum of course. If not then fine, nobody is forcing anything on you. That I post doesn't mean you have to reply.
Are you sure you're in the right place? People like you are a common theme in Ayn's writings. Peter Keating comes to mind.
One Gulcher thought I should get off the board.
For my writing "Make me," other Gulchers gave me minus points.
Me dino still doesn't care.
I'll not be kissing up to you either.
I’s never makes you do nuffin’...
Jus’ please puts me on da “no kissin’ up” list, den we cool...😎
I'm a retired corrections officer. I can handle trouble. I can also pick my fights.
The world is far from perfect, but there is so much to be happy about. I'm generally not angry. I struggle to understand people who are furious about life in the 21st Century "free" world.
"I struggle to understand people who are furious about life in the 21st Century "free" world."
This line though I'm kinda curious about, do you really not understand? Or do you choose not to agree?
Heck, look at the results of this thread. I ask a reasonable question, I get nothing but attacks, insults, and shut down by admin. In a site called "Galt's Gulch" of all places.
I see the glass half full. I think the arc of human history bends toward liberty. I think we have an amazing level of liberty compared to people in other centuries and compared to people in very repressive countries.
It's good to know there are others out there who enjoyed books about living free for yourself and rejecting manipulation, strong-arming, guilt, and violence. It's up to every individual to work out what to do. So what would you like to actually do?
What I'd like to see;
- Primary would be for people in the same area to connect.
- Another this site kinda does. That's support good businesses by the group providing information on various choices. We all have to buy food, which grocery store has better policies. We all need fuel, which fuel company has better policies. etc. The business section comes close, maybe admin can provide stickies for categories. IDK, something the group would have to work on with admin involvement.
- Work on advice to avoid supporting the enemy. In particular would be federal taxes, state taxes, and avoiding bad companies like alphabet/google.
- Work on finding practical ways to gulch. As I said before I'm not a fan of the strike, I do like the idea of an enclave though. Maybe something anywhere between the free state project and I have a house for rent I'd like a gulcher.
- Allies, looks like this is a rather closed group, it's too small to do much. There's a lot of other small similar groups, find a way to merge on common ground.
However given how well this simple question has been received I don't have much hope for this site. Thus I'm not going to be investing in it, neither time, identity, nor dollars. I'll see where this goes, maybe poke around till I'm completely banned. Looks like I'm already shadow banned, so we'll see.

"for people in the same area to connect. "
Yes. Sometimes it's surprising how many people you already know agree with the ideas in the books, even if they claim to dislike Rand.
"which fuel company has better policies. etc"
I suspect people wouldn't agree on which policies are better.
"In particular would be federal taxes, state taxes, and avoiding bad companies like alphabet/google. "
I'm a rare Gulcher who is a generally positive toward Alphabet/Google. I am intrigued by running a gov't on voluntary fees, but I don't see an easy way to make it happen. For that reason I don't see the concept of taxes as the enemy.
"I do like the idea of an enclave though. "
I am a huge fan of this. I think (hope) it will happen. I hope it's already happening, and we haven't heard of it. In my fantasy it starts as a zona franca in some Latin American country. They get dispensation to avoid almost all taxes and federal laws. The citizens defend it with their own small arms. An army could occupy it, but it's hard to make off with the value. The value is in that investors can connect with companies there where people are free to take a risk and keep the rewards if it works. If you steal it, you steal from investors around the world. You're also hurting vendors, customers, and employees of firms in the zona franca. It's easier to trade with them than to steal from them.
- Then that would be an interesting debate. Or at least a debate. Not just the popularity contest going on here now.
"I'm a rare Gulcher who is a generally positive toward Alphabet/Google."
- Why, it's clear they have a very socialist bent?
" I am intrigued by running a gov't on voluntary fees, but I don't see an easy way to make it happen. "
- Same, butt....
"For that reason I don't see the concept of taxes as the enemy."
- Concept no, amount and application absolutely. I can't imagine you're content with current taxation levels, what is taxed, and what those taxes are used for?
I don't detect it at all. I've voluntarily turned over a lot of my life to them. I won't be shocked if they abuse their power in spite of their mission not to be evil.
" I can't imagine you're content with current taxation levels, what is taxed, and what those taxes are used for?"
No. I think we're becoming a decadent, bloated empire in the area of taxes. If people got paid in cash at one window and had to walk over to another window and turn it over or face arrest, there would be a tax revolt. It would also help if every time they proposed gov't do something, e.g. help pay for prescription drugs, move forces to intervene in Syria, increase prison sentences, fund more cancer research, go to Mars; immediately there were a tax change. Politicians would have to say, "for the price of a daily latte, we could modernize our ships and buy new weapons for the troops," or whatever it is. People would think harder asking, "do we really need that?"
