Pompous elitist tells liberals, "Don't stop believing you are superior (in spite of the lack of evidence) just stop acting that way." He should tell them, "Don't forget who has the guns and the knowledge of how to use them."
Mr. Alexander still dances around the real issue. True enough, he names the rhetorical faults of the left. When racist = white, sexist = male, heterosexual = homophobic, cis-gendered = transphobic, et cetera ad nauseam, this white male heterosexual, born male and never intending to change, wears those labels the way a wounded warrior wears the Purple Heart.
But that's not the real issue. The Thought Police are a mere adjunct to the primary gang, which is: the looters' gang.
A thief is an irregular wealth-redistribution agent. Rand said something to that very effect in one of her essays--I forget which, but I'm sure someone here can remember. She asked what difference existed between a common garden variety robber or burglar on the one hand, and a tax agent for a government that provides any form of "welfare" on the other. Answer: none, except that the latter has "official" sanction and the former doesn't.
And what Mr. Alexander definitely misses, is this: the targets of the personal abuse, repeated excession of lawful authority (academic and governmental), and wholesale theft, withdrew their sanction on 8 November 2016. And the leftists are still ranting and raving and screaming at the top of their lungs.
Perhaps my initial impression of the author's article was wrong. This is not the first time the author has made this observation. See article in 2010 from WaPost: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/...
Looks like he had to tone it down to get into the NYT. So instead of just a pompous elitist, his writing appears to be from a spineless CINO begging for NYT publication.
I tend to ignore the liberal exercise in character assassination and name calling, or their manufactured hysteria about irrelevant issues. I tend to focus on what's behind the intemperate display and go to the proposed policies.
For starters, the Democrats openly state they intend to reverse the Trump tax bill and increase taxes on everyone. They pretend their approach to taxes will help the middle class, but the reality says different.
Then there's all the "free" stuff: college, health care. Now we're hearing about a "guaranteed" job for everyone. What that means is that if you can't get a job on the open market, you will be able to apply for a public works job. This is modeled on FDR's New Deal constructs like the Civilian Conservation Corps. If this would do away with welfare, it might not be so bad, but nope, this will only be for people who want work. Those who choose to live on the dole will be able to continue doing so.
Forget securing the borders. The more ignorant, uneducated voters the better. Forget voter ID, as the belief is that anyone who lives in this country, legally or not, should have the right to vote on how it's run.
Forget a robust military. We're actually the biggest threat to peace, so if we were just nicer to everyone, we wouldn't need a military. Appeasement is the best policy.
American nationalism is evil. We need to work harder at becoming a friendlier member of the global community, and we should obey all of those UN pronouncements and decrees.
Once you get a good look at the liberal agenda, it's no surprise that anyone with a grain of sense hesitates to agree with them. Of course, with them looking for new people to insult and curse, it's a natural repellent.
For many, their worst enemy is to be found in their bathroom mirror. One does not have to be a loony lib to pull that off that feat. But it surely helps. Ah, that always combined with the movement of lips.
Reading through some of the comments, it is amazing just how many of the respondents reinforced his points in the article. "It's not us, it's them", followed by vicious attacks on his character (again, reinforcing his point).
He should tell them, "Don't forget who has the guns and the knowledge of how to use them."
You can't always tell.

If he's a liberal, the whole model of a left/right political dichotomy has completely fallen apart.
