I'd Like To See More Categories and I Don't Want To Have To Give A Reason When I Edit A Comment

maybe I just need a tutorial on subcategories, but I suggest Education as One. I'm sure others in here have wondered what category to choose when posting.
also, the edit reason annoys me. whatever I put down as a reason-how is this helpful to administrators or the site in general?

apparently, concerns on edit reasons are not worthy of response from administrators.

        those things and purposes are outside of here. there's alot in here that addresses our need to vent, re group, test hypothesis, philosophies, etc. I have voted with my feet. truly, hurtfully. if I need to edit a damn post in here, I should be able to do it. no questions asked.

It's funny that you mention this, as I used this very thing today. In my impatience for it to show as having been edited, I just posted an oops, I meant to write.... I'm sure somebody saw the two Hee her's and wondered what I was smoking...

Why is giving a reason for editing a big deal? If you know why you are editing, which you should if you're editing, it should be easy enough to type out quickly.

  The level of difficulty isn't the issue. Just seems a bit silly. Wouldn't the reason be "typo" 90% of the time. Or is that just me? And why does a reason need to be given anyway? Maybe the "reason" for an edit should just default to "edit". (Who cares why?)

    It keeps people honest (though now that I know people can just type gibberish as a reason, I'm not so sure). A common tactic on message board is to edit your original post AFTER someone has replied to make the person who replied look bad.

      Actually...doing that has never even occurred to me, but if somebody was going to do that couldn't they just write "typo" as the reason anyway? An honest person wouldn't do it (such as myself) and a dishonest person will lie about it....so it's seems silly to require a reason. Your reply did sound a bit accusatory. Whenever I feel like I'm required to do something that is a silly waste of time...yeah...I'll write gibberish...but I would never change my message to make "someone look bad" after they replied to it. So requiring a reason won't keep anybody honest...(or make anybody dishonest), either their honest already or they aren't.

        The internet is filled with trolls. A responsible admin will take proactive measures to counteract them, as these admins have done.

        They may be "proactive", but I don't think it's effective. Calling out the person and pointing out what they've done in a subsequent reply, and taking away a point would probably be a better approach, but I haven't been on "message boards since middle school" (I WAS doing a lot of talking on a rotary phone then though),...what do I know?

Update. mom still on life support, and came back from a hike and wallets and passports stolen. yikes. I'm not sweating it, always have a contingency plan.         My sister and her husband went to Costa Rica for a 10 day vacation a few years back and they immediately stopped their car at the beach and went out for a walk...when they got back ALL of their luggage was gone. All they had was the clothes on their backs...for TEN DAYS. They would wash their clothes in the sink and on most days my sister wore her husband's boxers as shorts. lol Maybe you should've locked your door... I'm just sayin'. :)
