I had to share this email conversation that happened today on an email list I belong to. While not a funny subject, there is some humor in it and then something that makes me gag. So wanted to let the last person know the destruction they are up to but couldn't on a business list.

Since I had to put up with it, by choice because I read it, thought I would share for others enjoyment. Names removed for privacy. :)

Our illustrious city council just passed an ordinance due to kick in 7/1/15 that requires that employers pay mandatory sick leave, 1 hour for each 30 worked, max 40 hours per year and that can be carried over.

Our PTO policy is decidedly better than this so it won’t impact us much, but it will change our accounting procedure. This will also be extremely negative for our local business environment, and a complete PITA for people that work in both Eugene & Springfield.

I know, while we’re at it, let’s “plus it” with a $20/hour minimum wage!

I heard that this is also moving forward in CA (specifically San Diego).

My retirement plan involves spending everything I have to broke. Then getting SS, HUD with every support system/ program there is. I plan on eating at any free food distribution system I can find or do some work for cash. Hell I will even volunteer at the food place as long as I get fed and do not lose my government benefits. My numbers show I will live better than if I save a few hundred thousand and have to pay for everything still. Do they buy blood still in some states? Or pay you to do drug trials? Has to beat working, seems so many are doing it. Hell part time work $15 with paid sick leave.

I may even move to a west coast liberal state, but have do some more numbers, NY is pretty liberal also.

I do plan to pay no taxes to NY when I retire, even if it means moving to a camper in a friends parking lot.

As a real New Yorker (proudly liberal…and Jewish to boot), I do not have a problem with a mandatory sick days of 5 per year
Most of already offer that since it is the right thing to do for full-time employees.
