flanap-I don't think you can do it this way. THis is essentially LetsShrug's post and you have hijacked it and renamed it. Please delete the post and with your title and give us your own discussion. I'm going to assume that you didn't mean to move LetsShrug's post.
Ok...I think after reading all the replies, retorts, suggestions, admonishments, etc.... below, I will start a topic all on its own without any link to anything.
he or she already had some confusion on how to best move their comments to start a new discussion. I think that's what happened here. that's what I meant by "you can't." I asked for clarification from an Ambassador and the response was we have the ability, as you know, to virtually delete the post ourselves. I exercised my option. Overall, I think Flanap is fully transparent in his(her) goals in the Gulch, but I still am happy to discuss religion in here. It's a completely valid topic that I have interest in discussing. I just didn't want to change the integrity of LetsShrug's post to do that. Now, it's pretty clear to anyone new who checks out this post that LetsShrug did not originate the title to this post, nor did she want to continue the discussion of her original post under this one. Are we having a Christmas dinner spat? :)
No spat. It's just an internet message board. The integrity of a thread isn't hurt by the creation of a thread linking to it or even hijacking within it.
I disagree with that. I would have been fine with posting the thread and continuing the discussion. Here, the whole post was re-posted under a new title. That is confusing (people can continue any discussion under Lets Shrug's post here, thereby creating lots of comments and points (which in reality belong to the original post) and so therefore the integrity has changed, in my opinion. For example, the original dynamic and synergistic feel of her original post is carried over into this one, perhaps "robbing" her post of more comments and points. However, I am not an internet message board expert.
(I know that, up there, is a reply to khalling, but I reserve my right to butt-in). The thread being "hurt" is not the issue. A few small off-topic comments/questions within a thread is not a big deal, but I personally feel/think that LARGE run-on segments that are completely off topic is a bit extreme when you can open a different post about said topic. It's just the courteous thing to do. Whatever, I'm over it...not a life changing ordeal. I'll consider it done. The End. Please pass the jello.
In real life conversations, sometimes topics tangent off into metaphysical or epistemological or ethical considerations, especially when the people participating already have a shared interest in philosophy. It would thus logically happen online as well.
Yes, and usually the ones that then get engaged in the new topic tend to scoot a little closer to one another to continue the new topic of discussion, in a courteous manner, as to not take over the entire conversation which some may want to continue on with from the original discussion.
I was never in on your discussion. If I was I wouldn't have wanted you to stop highjacking mine. I'm going to assume you DID intend to move my post. Go grab some decency from your bag of tricks and stop trying to change the topic of other posts to fit your agenda. I, for one, am not up for engaging in your conversations, or your attempts at conversion, so start your own posts and if no one responds then take a hint...and a hike.
