I feel I am witnessing the gradual move toward the dreadful society depicted in Atlas Shrugged

Our American society, built on personal responsibility and hard work is gradually being eroded away by people who want to make everything more equitable for everyone. Let's make it more fair for everyone by taking from those who take risks, work hard, invest in themselves and give it to people who whine, complain and make excuses instead of making it happen.

It's worse than that, edith. Most moochers think they'll end up with the trophy house, the BMW, and the Bass Boat. What they don't realise is the powers that be don't want material wealth, but instead they want to lower everyones standard of living to that of Sub-Sahara Africans.

Perfect example is unemployment. Unemployment benefits are a fine short term solutions. The average job search for a suitable job is about 6 months. This morning I watched a TV interview talking about the end of extended unemployment if the fiscal cliff kicks in. This woman was crying about it etc. Unemployment is $1800/month. With serious cutting back and eating ramen noodles, you can live on $1800/month. If you know it's getting cut off, you will find something that will probably get you more than $1800/month. Even if it starts at less than that, wages do go up. Lower the standard of living by extending those benefits for another 24 months.

But that would mean they would actually have to work for it! And you're absolutely right about standards being lowered. "Let's make everything fair", is just the clarion call of the looters.

I am so sick about hearing "the erosion of the middle class" and "the gap between the rich and the poor is widening". When people can work, save invest to become wealthy, they can get rich. When they don't, they become poor. If they don't feel the consequences of being poor thanks to government handouts, they will never develop that determination that says "I will never live like this ever again. Not now, Not ever!"

Well the dollar is already weakening relative to the Euro over 2 days alone in a knee jerk reaction to the Federal Reserve's plan to print up $85 bn a month. And the President is asking Congress for a green light to continue printing money with no limit on the debt ceiling to fund those worthless government programs. There has never been even one government program that added to GDP. They all just suck money away from those who create, develop and produce. Who on earth would choose to continue policies for another 4 years unless there a sense of entitlement and wasteful government spending.
