How far apart are Randanistas and Republicans?

To me, there are so many contradictions, it is hard to see any alignment. I see no continuity between traditional values of Liberty and this party that exists today.

Both are quick and simple identifiers in order to make it easy for people to associate with similarly-minded individuals. I think it's best to ask what each individual you meet really thinks rather than trying to align high level labels which can never be aligned.

But the party is clearly called Republican and the candidate does not support Rand's values. If we're forced into this corrupt two-party system and what-used-to-be our party falls to the "Left" ... what are we left to do?

Ah, well, that is a different question. It all depends on whether you think the system is irreparable or not.

lol, you're right. I was secretly hoping someone was going to provide some alignment between the two. However, as I read more posts, I see that nobody here is buying this GOP small-government/less-spending rhetoric anymore.

You forget that it takes 2 to tango. Even If we had a Ron PAUL in the Whitehouse, he would not be able to go Small/govt like he wants unless he has the support of a deadlocked congress. Repeal the 17th amendment and we can get back to the business of states rights instead of two identical houses of popularity and big campaign spending.

It is not a two party system, but that is what they want us to think. The Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, will be on the ballot in all 50 states. Do not confuse "Libertarian" with "Liberal", completely different.

The state has only four responsibilities at the federal level, anything else is not legitimate. Protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud are its role. any republican individual (or democrat) that wants to do things outside of these 4 goals with government is an enemy to the US and contradicts the ideals of the US, capitalism, freedom and personal choice. They also are contrary to the constitution.

There are some republicans that seem to adhere to these ideals. We need to find and vote in more of them to get the party to shift from a moderate government party to a small government party. Its up to us to talk with each other identify good people and help them get in and then only keep them in if they maintain small government values.

Switching to a different party in our system is not an option so we have to drive the social control and big military guys out of the republican party through our own local efforts.

Sitting by and waiting for someone else to fix things is not the Rand way. It is up to us to step up politically just as we do in business, and take hold of what we can fix, our local government, and our local representatives. When we all do this, we will change America. Or, we drop out and watch the world go to hell via the moochers. I, for one, want to fight, as Dagne did.

You have remember that it really is a two party system of "looters" and "moochers" without the moochers the looters have a hard time of looting. Without looters the moochers don't stand a chance. So go the Republican and Democrat's in the same dance.

People who work within the party but hold to liberty are like Dagny and Reardon. People who refuse to vote for the establishment candidate and send their voice somewhere in the forgotten middle, in order to let the establishment (looters) fall and then be waiting to pick up the pieces, are like the Galts of the world. Rand Paul is Dagny, Ron Paul and his refusal to endorse Romney, which ensured his ollowers of voting third Party, is more like a Galt. Prolem is, Rand within the Republican Party of today is EXACTLY the contradiction Francisco warned about.

I would tend to agree with you but in the real world the Gault way will not work. Where do the producers go? How do you keep the looters and moochers out? Without a real world place for the producers to leave and go to where do they go? There will always be a Larry Miller (local to Utah) and a Steve Jobs (generally known everywhere) who are the Reardons of the world. If you pulled them out more would rise. The reality of Atlas wont happen unless we change the thinking from within through mass pressure during elections and when key issues are debated. We the small government crowd can no longer be a silent majority, conservatives must get louder and pass along great things when we see it to stir us up to action.

Very well put - great insight! Dagny figured it out in the end though, I wonder if those that work within the Republican party ever will. I'm afraid that this movement is too slow for a generation to recognize the errors in their way.
